Welcome ybm!
What if I told you that the only thing required for dreaming and lucid dreaming is, wait for it... SLEEP! Oh what a shocker! ^-^
The thing is that this should be obvious! But still I see people running around trying each and every method there is and get frustrated over themselves!
But I don't blame them... I used to do the same.
Instead of seeing lucid dreaming methods as a flick on a switch and mastery as understanding of the switch, that is to say a perfect instruction of how to lucid dream and mastery as understanding these instructions, try to see it as a personal journey, because I hate to break it to you, there are no perfect lucid dreaming inductions that works for everyone 100% of the time!
If there were, we wouldn't need this forum and well lucid dreaming would probably be called "Playstation Virtual" or something like that.
Lucid dreaming is an art of controling the awareness and the ego (subconscious, memories and emotions) so in a sense lucid dreaming is an art of controling yourself!
To master yourself sounds weird, but is it really? To master yourself simply means to understand yourself.
But how does one get understanding? By experience!
So first of all, choose one of the techniques that you like, or both! There are only two techniques DILD and WILD, Indirect and Direct entry to a dream.
Everything else is just variation of these techniques and are called methods. So then choose a method you like, but don't observe the method and think "Ok this method doesn't work" instead think "Hmm when I did this this happend" and think of both negative and positive results, like "oh my dream recall got better when I did a WILD attempt before bed" or "Oh my dream recall got worse when I snoozed with my alarm in the morning" but then ask yourself "Why?" and you can both learn by experience and understand by analyzing.
Also don't see things you read as facts, because you should relay on your own experience not others. I for example, perform a WILD attempt every night AT bedtime because I have found that my dreams get super vivid and I can sort of explain it with brain chemistry, however that is MY theory and MY experience, you can let it inspire you, but you shouldn't let theories control you!
People tell you to not try the impossible, although I like to try it to find new possibilites.
To round this of, my point is that you should learn from your attempts, not get dragged down by them. This is the path to mastery!
One tip or trick I can give you though, that got my awareness in dreams kick started (also thanks for reminding me by asking), is the practise of your short-term memory.
Because the thing is that you might have many awesome experiences non-lucid or lucid but it's just that you forget it. So to practise your short-term memory you will both become more aware and remember the experience of your dreams. And here is a thread I think can help you with both:

If you have any questions though, feel free to ask. But remember my answers will only be inspiration and not factual information
