Welcome, hope you enjoy your stay. As for help with lucid dreaming, the number one rule is keep at it. Never give up.
That said, if its taken you a year, without any results, then it might be time to change your technique. WILD is usually considered to be one of the most advanced techniques in the art of lucid dreaming, with DILD being entry level. Well, I was in a similar position as you. Tried my best to DILD, with only tiny flickers of results over a period of two years, including a nearly year long dry spell. I then tried WILD in conjunction with WBTB and so far, I haven't missed a day. Might be something to consider. If your set on DILD (and don't think I hate the technique or anything, it just wasn't for me), then make sure when you reality check to carefully consider the question "am I dreaming?" and, if in doubt, assume you are. Also, have you got any dream signs? In case you don't know (and forgive me if come off as condescending), dream signs are recurring elements in your dreams. Since they appear frequently in dreams, the best time to reality check is when encounter said sign in waking life (or simply catch yourself thinking about it), so that the habit continues on to dream life.
