I only wish that I'd gotten my start when I was 8 years old! That's awesome. Ah well, better (very) late than never. Were you strictly self-taught or were you exposed to LD in some other way? I was self-taught. I believed I had a 'magic' pair of pajamas that allowed me to have dreams. Funnily enough every time I wore them I had a dream. I then found out what lucid meant a couple years ago. And I realized that the dreams I had when I was younger were what you describe as lucid. And I've had them ever since.
