      A Hello (and a question!)

Hello there! I've stumbled onto this great site after wanting to learn more about lucid dreaming. I didn't even know there was a term for this until I told a friend that I had a dream where I was fully aware it wasn't real (this has only happened once and wasn't very interesting!)
Anyway, I want to expand on this but have a question. I work long (twelve hour) night shifts. Has anybody heard of any incident of something like this getting in the way of keeping dream journals, getting lucid dreams etc?

      Cheers!

I don't think it gets in the way of dreams and lucid dreaming...it just means that with working nights your REM phases will be different to the rest of us, and that's what you need to work out.
I work shifts, a mixture of early and late starts. I find that if i go to bed and i'm on an early start the next day, i don't have any dreams, because i'm woken up at 5am and my REM phase is between five and seven am.
If i'm on lates, or days off, i don't have a problem!
Hopefully this clarifies your situation. Feel free to PM me if you need any more assistance.

Welcome. Your long work shifts shoudl not hinder dreams. They coudl if the thought of work stresses you out so much that you do nto get a good night's sleep. BUt if you stay relaxed and pacient, you will succeed.

      Thanks for the replies!
I haven't been too worried about the night shift thing - just needed reassurance I guess! I get enough sleep and get vivd and pleasent dreams which I can recall fairly well so I can't blame work if it all fails...

      Thanks again
