Lucidity Causes me to wake up!

It seems like every time that I suddenly grasp that I am in fact dreaming I wake up. Allow me to give an example:

I dreamed that I was walking through the set of the television show "Night Court" (Television and Movies are very often a component of my dreams) when I suddenly realized that this was a TV show and that I could not possibly be here. I concluded I must be dreaming and promptly woke up.

The thing is, this happens every time I discover that I am dreaming. Does anyone know of a way to keep oneself asleep after attaining lucidity?

      Hi and welcome to DV,

You could try the tutorials and the forum on dream control. I as a newbie found interesting info there.

Some would suggest spinning as a way to stay awake in the dream, but other techniques are useful too.

The first thing to remember once you become lucid is not to get too excited. If you do, there's a good chance you'll wake up. Just keep yourself calm and try some of the dream-controlling techniques to keep it from fading. I find spinning around on my axis and rubbing my hands together is usually enough to keep me in the dream and increase the clarity of my vision.

The dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
And lie a while in bed
I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams” —Rush

Rev has the right idea. Also when you realize you are dreaming, pay attention to small detials. Go over your whole scene and look at every small detial. Make it your mission to analize and study your envrionment beofre you do anything. This will keep out calm and grounded.

I found your title a nice play on words. Because that is exactly what happens. You wake up. But its in your dream.
Unfortuntly I know you are talking about waking up from sleep. Well you are certainly not alone. This is very very common. And with experiance lucid dreaming will also become more common. This should give your mind a chance to let it happen.

Was it excitment that awoke you?
