      Old ...but Somewhat Wise Newby

Wow...you guys have no idea how great it is to find this place.
I must say that I am somewhat older than the majority of your visitors here, (40) but I felt like a kid again when I started exploring this place. Please excuse the non-hip lingo but like I said I am old.
When I was 16 I somehow stumbled across what we now call "Lucid Dreams", it was the most incredible thing I had ever experienced and I was fascinated with the phenomena beyond belief.
Remember now that that was like 1980 or so, we did not have the internet yet, I at the time lived in "Butthole Alberta Canada" so it took some serious investigating to find any literature on conscious dreams "LD" was not a term I learned till the mid 80's. Most of what I found was in phys textbooks, not very informative and offered nothing in the training department. It was also not a topic I could bring up openly to friends without getting a strange look so I kept it to myself for many years.
It was an unbelievably frustrating time back then to have this wonderful talent but to not be able to harness it. I was able to go full lucid every once in awhile, just often enough to keep me interested.
In the mid 80's I did find a book that dealt with "LD” and offered some of the very same techniques I have read about on this site. I plunged head first into my training and within 9-10 months I was probably going full lucid at least twice a week if I concentrated and prepared properly... but it was exhausting as you are all aware.
Anyway, after 25 years I wish I could say I have this thing mastered but I don’t. It takes just as much concentration now as it did at my peak of lucidity. I do not expect LD every single night anymore; it is just too hard on the brain. Instead of thinking about it everyday now, I have two set nights a week I prepare for and give myself the rest of the week time off.
I have tons ideas and tips, and experiences I would love to share with the group, I have cruised around here for a few days now and have read many of your experiences and thoughts. I look forward to meeting y’all.

      Thank You
      Ken

Hiya Ken, and welcome to DreamViews!

Glad to have another old fart on the forum!

I also discovered the ability to lucid dream at a young age, although I didn't know it had a name until just over a year ago, when I found DV. I look forward to hearing more about your experiences, and I'm sure you'll find a lot of helpful information (and people) here.

      Hello Ken,

Welcome to the forum. I am curious about what your personal technique for having a lucid dream is. On your two set nights, what exactly do you do to prepare for LD?

      Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Ken!
And welcome aboard. I think I've got the edge on the age thing; I'm 62 years young. In truth, it's only the body that ages, not the spirit. No one's really "old" or "young" - we're all eternal, and the universe is our playground. I also discovered lucid dreaming in the 80's - 1989 if memory serves me correctly - and, yeah, I had to be careful with whom I shared my enthusiasm. At the time, I was working for a conservative investment bank on Wall Street , and I made the mistake of sharing my first lucid dream with a co-worker. The next thing I knew, people were asking me if I'd been abducted by aliens! I guess the biblical advice about not casting one's pearls before swine holds true. The good news is that you won't find that sort of ignorance here, This site is a real treasure trove of info.
      God Bless!
