      Hello :) New here

Hey everyone I have been reading the forums for about a month now, and just now deciding to register. I have been interested in lucid dreaming for a few years now. Shortly after I first learned about lucid dreaming and doing the reality checks, I had my first lucid dream. Not long but very very vivid.

I happend to be at my parents house, and my whole family was gathered around the dinner table (Kinda like a Thanksgiving dinner) And I realized something is wrong, I didnt rembmer how I got there or why I was there.. So did the reality check. Once I realize I was dreaming I became so excited that I started yelling it at the top of my lungs. Everyone at the table looked at me confused. Then my dad and mom came up to me with a very concerend look upon them. They asked me if I was ok, and started to convince me that I wasn't dreaming and I was thinking man I am an idiot for yelling in front of my family like that... After that, I lost lucidity, and havent had a lucid dream for about 3 years... Im getting back into it now and have even started to go WILD (got the vibrations and all) But still no lucid.

Anyway, Great forums! Glad to be here!

      Welcome!

I too am yet to have a controlled LD.

However, the short LD that I did have came from the only time that I chose to do WBTB - I suggest that you follow people's advice on that one.

Although, note that it is not a method entirely in itself; it's really just a way of setting yourself up before using one of the other methods.

For example, after doing the little WBTB routine, you will be able to WILD much easier. It also greatly increases your chances of MILD, or simply just realising that you are dreaming.

For example, in my case, I did WBTB, then tried to WILD, fell asleep (accidentally) but in the dream that followed, I realised that I was dreaming.

I'm the same way, I'll wake up at like 4am, then try to WILD (though usually I don't), then I'll fall asleep and atart dreaming. The dream will be non lucid to start, then I'll just become lucid because I see my cat eat a house or something. I generally think I'm more receptive to attaining lucidity after WBTB. I wonder why that is?

This is just my opinion, but I think there are a couple of reasons this works. First of all, after you've already gotten a few sleep cycles out of the way, you're going to go into the REM stage more quickly, have longer dreams, and therefore have more of a chance to become lucid. Also, I think that since you have just recently been asleep, and likely dreaming, that "dream feeling" is fresh in your mind, and becomes easier to recognize.

Whatever the case, it most certainly does work for me, and based on what I've read, for a lot of other people as well.
