I don't think it can be said for sure. Your mind could possibly create a dream character as a method of bringing something foward into your consciouss from your unconscious. I think the mind is very powerful I have had some dreams recently where there have been very complex dream characters, but I think it is a way of my mind just helping me out.

In your dreams everything comes from your own mind. there is no external stimuli or information coming in that would add to your knowledge. Its amazing the things you remember when you have direct access to your subconscious
