I just found this site last night when i was bored and decided to browse HowStuffWorks.com. I came across an article about sleep and it looked interesting... it wasn't. But there was a link to this site so I clicked it and read all of the pages on the main site.
It was about 12:00 AM when I finished reading them. So after that I decided to go to bed and instead of watching tv like I usually do, I layed down and just thought to myself "I will lucid dream" over and over. Eventually, I could hear my heartbeat and that was the weirdest thing ever. Then, my ears started ringing. Not the usually ringing you get when there is no sound, this was LOUD. And every 2-3 seconds, there was a big "wave" of ringing that was so loud, my eyes watered. The best real life relation I can think of is feedback on a microphone/guitar etc... but it was a higher pitch. Then I saw these orange lines kind of moving in rythm... hard to explain. During all this, I could still hear my heartbeat. During one of the "waves", I got a tingly feeling all over my body. This kept happening for a while, then it stopped... I performed several reality checks to make sure I was still awake afterward, and I was. I rolled over and tried it again, it worked, but not to the same intesity. Eventually, I fell asleep. But I didn't realize it until I awoke with a jolt. Kind of like one in those dreams where you fall and hit the ground. I perforned some reality checks to see that I was awake, and I was. I looked at the clock and I hadn't been asleep for more than 5 minutes.
What happened?
Just a few minutes ago, I thought of a dream I had one night after going to the fair (one of the few dreams I can remember past 2 weeks or so... Its over 3 years old). It had me waking up in my bed that was on the fairgrounds with people all around me. So I told them to shutup and I went to sleep.... They woke me up again o_O and that was when I realized I was dreaming (hadn't ever even heard of lucid dreaming). And as soon as I thought of that, I woke up.
what happened?
Now some questions on lucid dreaming in general...
1) How can one be sure that he is controlling his dream? How does he know that he isn't dreaming he is controlling his dream?
2) Is lucid dreaming possible with a tv on? I usually sleep with mine on, because it kind of serves as a night light, and I get bored in bed. For some reason, I find it harder to sleep when I am bored...
3) Should I work on dream recall before I even start trying to lucid dream?
4) I am curious if people on this site have lucid dreams on a regular basis.
Sorry my post is so long
