Hi, I am completely new to lucid dreaming and message boards. I have alway been fasinated with dreams and have had a hard time finding people to talk to about dreams in detail without them thinking I'm crazy or just telling me I think to much. Anyway, I'm not sure if I had a true lucid dream last night or not and I'm looking for a little advice on it. In my dream I was late trying to get somewhere and everything was going wrong, so finally I get into the car with my dad and he is driving really fast on a narrow highway which seemed to be suspended in the air. I was really scared and thought to myself maybe I could be dreaming, so I looked at my left hand and asked myself if I was dreaming( this is my reality check I do thoughout the day.) As I was looking at my hand I replied with I don't know if I'm dreaming or if I'm not my dad is going to think I'm insane,but I was so scared I had to try to see if I could change things or not. I could indeed change things, but I couldn't convice myself I was dreaming and could control everything. It felt like there were two of me and the one side knew for sure I was dreaming but the other refused to believe it. It only lasted for about a minute until I slipped back into my dream. Thanks so much to whoever takes the time to read and reply with their thoughts about this dream.

It is if your subconscious and your conscious ids fighting for control. Which I believes what is actually going on here. If you are new sometimes the concept of lucid dreaming is a lot to take in at first. And your conscious does not want to give up control. It sounds like you were indeed lucid. Because of the dire nature of the dream you did what you had to do. Next time I think you will find the feeling of lucidity also. You have to remain confident!!! And quite having those bad dreams. Welcome Pinkster! Dream Views is the best place to be if your new to forums. Unfortunaly Many forums on the internet are filled with annoying rude ignorant people But Dreams Views is amazing We have soooo soooo so ( I cant tell you enough) great people here that I love. Its a great place to talk about and discuss your dreams, and even more. That dream you had sounded like a low level Lucid Dream. You were Lucid, but were not sure of it, not confident in it. Welcome Howetzer is right to tell you to stay confident, it's all in your own mind so confidence is quite literaly everything. Keep at it, you can't be far off a lucid if you managed to change things. Good luck.

Welcome to DV Also, it helps to do more than one reality check, just in case one doesn't work or you're not sure. My favorite is when you plug your nose and try to breathe through it. If you can, then obviously you're dreaming. You can also look at your watch a couple times and see if the time changes. There's a post in the Tutorial forum on different ones you can try out.
