      physical reminder for LD?

      Hey all.

First off, since this is my first post, let me take this opportunity to say great forum everyone! Y'all are very helpful and you've got a great site here.

Moving on, while perusing one of the topics here, I noticed a comment about writing on one's hand to remember things...but the person (whose name escapes me) basically said "that couldn't work for LD though, right?"

Well, keeping in mind I'm incredibly inexperienced in all of this, I pose this question to you...could it work? When one dreams, is their body portrayed as their mind sees it, or as it is physically? Maybe if you write something on your hand, your mind will remember that and keep it there in your dreams. Then, if you write, say, a reminder to do a reality check and you see it during your dream, it might be enough to help you snap out? That would certainly make things a little easier...

      Hey and welcome!
I'm not too sure it would work, because you don't always look as you should or do in dreams. I think if really payed attention to the fact that you have something written on your hand, and if you kept it a couple days, it might become part of what you look like in a couple dreams. You could also just ignore it when you see it in a dream, so you'd probably have to remember to do a reality check regularly when you see it. Either way, it's probably something worth trying out (and could probably help establish a habit of doing reality checks).

In dreams I am rarely exactly the same as I am in waking life. I find in dreams the scars on the back of my hand aren't there. However if I wrote some thing on the back of my hand and kept checking it was there it might work. Even if the writing doesn't appear in the dream at least if I remember I'l notice it's gone, so it should work weather or not you apear as you are. Good idea, I might try it .

I'd say that writing something on your hand is useful only if you forget to do reality checks in waking life (in the time when you're trying to make it a habit) so it reminds you. It could probably trigger lucidity in a dream too, but doing it just for that would not be very effective IMO.

Well, with reality checks, they're usually not very effective unless they are done on a consistent basis so that they become a habit. Finding a current dream sign helps with that a lot, as you can train yourself to see things you usually see in your dreams. People who don't have a consistent dream sign can use writing on their hand or a piece of paper or a watch to try and create a dream sign so that they will perform that action in a dream and be able to become lucid.

It's all about making a habit of doing reality checks. If you create a habit, then chances are it will appear in your dream.
