      Music or Television?

I have found that if i listen to music or hear it in the background or a t.v. that I have some of the most bizarre dreams of my life.. some are good and some are horrible. Does anyone else deal with this? I usually have to have the sound of a fan in the room or I dont fall asleep good.

      Any ideas on this?

When I listen to music, I fall asleep faster and have weird dreams. IM sure its because you are keeping you mind slightly more active then just sitting in the darkness.

I am a very light sleeper, so any music or voices will keep me awake. Once I'm fully asleep, I'm usually okay, but according to scientific research, usually any noises during sleep will disrupt from normal patterns and may cause you not to sleep as well.

However, I used to be able to sleep to very loud classical music. I also remember having some interesting dreams, including my first flying (non-lucid) dream (to the song "I believe I can fly." Coincidence?). At any rate, I'm not sure what the sleeping patterns are like for someone who is accustomed to constant noise during sleep. That'd be an interesting experiment for those Ph.Ds to look into. Not like they've got anything better to do

Summary: I think it just depends on the person. You can probably use music or television to trigger lucid dreams, if you can train yourself to recognize them during your dream state.

Thank you both for your responces. I have never been more intrigued by a web site than i am with this one.

I am using a device now that sends out sounds of nature; crashing waves (my fav ) seagulls, thunderstorm and I find i am more relaxed and have less nightmares. For me thats the whole reason I sought for this web site.. to understand, and hopefully stop constant nightmares...

I used to sleep with the radio on all the time. I used to alternate between rock and classical music. I found that if I listened to rock music as i drifted off, I'd have realisitic dreams. If I listened to classical, I had really odd and usually inspiring dreams.

But lately there has been no music. My sig other needs silence to sleep. It's really screwed up my dreams for the past few months.

And, yes, I need noise to fall comfortably asleep. A fan, soft music, anything but silence. If it's too quiet my mind absolutely races with random thoughts. I better get my music back. Maybe my dreams won't be so angry.

I find it has to be a certain type of music, sort of like chillout music, very regular, very even. No rock and roll allowed!!
It has to have a set repeating rythm. And i do find that if i listen to my favourite cd and manage to get down for an afternoon nap, i do have some pretty crazy dreams...the last one being very erotic, mind you, it didn't go in the DJ on here!!

lol, we all have those kind of dreams sometimes. in fact, one time i was listening to music while i was going to sleep one time, and i had easily the weirdest dream i've ever had. All that i'm going to say was that it involved a pizza!!!
