Thread: Self concious in dream instantly after realization?

So I'm not understanding it correctly, do you suddenly become consious in a dream if you do a reality check and realize that it's a dream state?

Or this will only happen if you've had your proper amount of 5-6 hours before attempting to lucid dream?

haha, Ironically, I usually realize i'm lucid then do a Reality Check. I think that is more how it works, or you do it enough that when you do it sub-conciously in your dream you go wait a second ! When I did this before my finger didnt go through my hand... so then you go it must be a dream! and i've realized, Yes you can say dream in a dream and it won't turn lucid.. haha

After you realize it, RCs just confirm it.

The thing reality checks also help with is when you have a FA or false awakening, you think you woke up in real life but you didnt. So you go, what the hell, Reality Check... and then you realize your still asleep.

anytime you are in REM sleep you can become conscious. the first period of dreamsleep usually occurs 90 minutes after falling asleep.

the later periods (past 5 hours) allow lucid dreams easier because they are longer, and closer together.

It doesn't really matter how long you've been dreaming. If you are used to doing reality checks (faithfully) throughout the day on a frequent basis, you may do one at any point and become lucid.

I've also found that it's best to do more than one RC just in case the first one fails. As Ezekiel said, I've also found that I'm already half certain that I'm dreaming even before I do an RC. They just help you build confidence that you are, in fact, dreaming.

My first lucid dream, I became aware and I was sure that I was in a dream. But I thought "do I still have to do a reality check?" And I thought "I'll do so anyways to remind myself that I'm lucid."

In my first and only LD I didn't have to do an RC, I just knew. On my 'kind of' LD' I though: hey this isn't right, lets do an RC.

So I think you first have to thinking: 'hey am I dreaming' and a RC can push you over the line of lucidy. =)

Well, I would strongly advise doing an RC before jumping out of a window or off of anything tall... just to be on the safe side.
