      Is what I'm experiencing an unintentional technique?

      Sometimes, when I'm really tired and am trying to go to sleep, I'll have my eyes closed and am going to bed and my thoughts are going. I'll just be thinking and not really be paying attention, like day dreaming, I guess. Well, sometimes I'll get pictures in my minds eye and sound and voices to go with it. Most of the time they are just incredibly random mixes of things, and I usually just open my eyes and try and figure out what it was that I was thinking about and they go away. But I was thinking, is this really a LD introduction technique? Instead of "waking up," should I try and so something else otherwise. I am hesitant to call it waking up because I'm not really asleep, as I can bring myself out of it. Or it is a very, very light stage of sleep. I'm not sure. Any ideas?

      Hi there, what you are experiencing is hypnagogic imagery (otherwise known as HI).

      One technique some people use is called WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dream), and one part of the technique is to get to the stage where you begin to experience HI.

      If you can get to this stage easily, then it might be useful for you to try WILD, maybe you will have some success with it.
