I just snapped awake not too long ago and described an odd dream I had to my boyfriend. After I explained it to him, he asked if I was set on a fixed path during the dream or if I had free will. In this dream, as in my dreams for as long as I can remember, if I wanted to do something I could do it. I made things appear and fast-forwarded and teleported. He called it "lucid." I initially assumed this was a scary thing; that I'd have a bad realistic dream and wake up and kill myself or something.

To be honest, I don't remember anything tipping me off to the fact that I was actually asleep. After reading that this was usually necessary for lucid dreaming, I started to question exactly what I was doing.

My dreams generally feel very real. For instance, I was walking down a street I know well and every building was as it would have been in real life, down to the minute details.

I keep a notebook and I used to use the fact that I didn't have the urge to write in it as a cue that I was dreaming. Now in dreams, I think about how I'm going to write about something that occured... which is what I do in reality.

So anyway, I found this site after searching the term. That's my story and howdy.
