      Trouble waking

Hi everyone I am new here but found the site trying to get some insight on my recent dream problems. I started researching lucid dreaming when I was around 14 from an article I read in Omni magazine. I started out by doing the reality checks many times during the day and found it pretty easy right off the bat to have a lucid dream. Having them is not my problem. I have recently (now I am 34 years old) been having a problem of waking myself up and fully being aware of waking but some parts of my dream are still there. I seem to have a really deep buzzing in my ears and the feeling that I can't shake all of the sleep away. I was dreaming of a man standing in my doorway to my bedroom and I was afraid so I woke myself up. The buzzing started in my ears and I was extremely groggy but awake and he was still there. As I stared at the man in the doorway it all went away pretty quickly and I knew I was fully awake because I was staring at the window and the doorway is on the other side of the room. I have never had this problem in the past and was wondering if anyone else has any trouble like this when waking. Any info would be helpful.

Hi! Welcome to DV! I see you are from Tennessee, yeah! we need some more people from the Volunteer state here!

It sounds to me like you are staying in the borderline state a little longer than is usual for people. It's only happened a few times though, right? I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot.

Have your sleeping habits changed lately? Rearanged your room or changed the time you go to bed at night? Sometimes a change in your environment will cause sleep disturbances.

I have had an onset of insomnia lately due to stress. Do you think that may have caused this? I really didn't feel comfortable in the situation (a little like being out of control).

It can be a little alarming when something like that happens, but when you know it can be a normal part of waking up, you realize that there is no reason to be afraid. In fact, many people welcome such experiences. That borderline between waking and sleeping can be a pretty interesting place.

Your insomnia could have had something to do with it. Give yourself about a week and see if things return to normal.

The state of sleep paralysis is something out of your control, briefly. It is nothing to be alarmed over. Your brain just has not sent the message to your motor skills to wake up! Wake up!.
So as seeker mentioned, use it. Experience with it. you may find an altered state of consciousness you may never have experienced before.

Due to the stress people often experience sleep paralysis more often do to the fact that their physical conscious mind is more alert (From fright)) This often causes you conscious mind to wake up prematurely to your subconscious mind. The result SP.
