First up, welcome to Dreamviews! |

Sometimes if you concentrate too hard on getting to sleep, it has the opposite effect. Like Alex D said, if this is a chronic problem, you should talk to a doctor about it. If not, don't try so hard! Use relaxation techniques to clear your mind, and sleep will come. Maybe your sleep schedule got thrown off, or maybe you slept in too long that morning. Regular sleep schedules are important not only for dreaming, but for good, restful sleep for your body's sake. |

I found the first time I tried a few techniques after waking up one night (MILD, and that one where you move your fingers about) I couldn't get back to sleep for about 2 hours. Which is very much out of the ordinary for me, I usually fall asleep very quickly (a few minutes). I was laying in bed and my mind was racing, not nesecarily about lucid dreaming though. I think my mind was just stimulated from thinking about lucid dreaming, and all those techniques I attempted. Anyway I was a tad worried about being awake for so long, and I felt a bit put off about trying those induction techniques. So the next few nights I just left it, but i decided to try some techniques again (failed them again), and I found it still took me a little longer then usual to get to sleep. And I have found now, that If I do fail any techniques, and find myself laying there awake, I will usually fall back to sleep in normal time. It just took a while for my brain to get used to all the unfamiliar activity. |

When you get more used to the techniques, I'd say you won't have much of a problem sleeping. I think you need to relax your mind more. You might just be too excited or too stressed, or even as Matt said, it could just be because you weren't used to using your mind in that way. I hope you have better luck next time. By the way, welcome to the forum! |

It could be your sleep schedule. My schedule was thrown off for the past few months until couple weeks ago. I would stay up until 5 or 6 in the morning, and sleep till 2 or 3 pm. I finally broke myself of the habit by staying up for an entire night, then running a few miles at 6:30 am. |
