      Im new

Hey guys, im new around here and am very interested in Lucid Dreaming. I have had several before, compleatly by accident, and would like to repeat the same experience. I have recently started a dream journal and think i have fairly good recall (If i sleep good i can recall 2 dreams a night with ease, and usually a faint third one) I would like some advice on several subjects though. Firstly, i have thus far not been able to induce a LD. Since i am a begginer, what do oyu believe the best method for me would be. Secondly, is there any way for we to wake myself up in the middle of the night without an alarm clock. The reason for this is that when i have to set my alarm, it completely riuns my relaxation. Thnks in advance for any light you could shed on the subject.

      Hey Remus and

Well, you're off to a great start with the dream journal - that is key for two reasons

      1) gets your mind accustomed to remembering your dreams.
      2) gives you the opportunity to look back and identify dreamsigns you can use later to become lucid

oh... and 3) makes you able to share your experiences with us!!

Secondly, is there any way for we to wake myself up in the middle of the night without an alarm clock. The reason for this is that when i have to set my alarm, it completely riuns my relaxation.[/b]
Now, as far as waking up in the night without the alarm (which I believe is wise because upon waking up you don't want to move your body too much) you could try using headphones to a radio or something that has an alarm feature to it. iPods are great for this. What you can do is set the alarm to a short message that will wake you up and not require you to turn it off.

Another good thing to use the iPod for is to set yourself a lucidity message - You could record yourself saying something like "Check for the lucid dream, are you dreaming, fly" and set it to go off in the middle of the night. In your dream you will hear the message and do a reality check. I have tried this technique a few times and sometimes it would wake me up, other times I would already be up. I can't recall it inducing a lucid dream - but then again, I said I can't recall it working, which goes back to the dream journal and recalling being key in lucid dreaming.

Good luck Remus and I'm looking forward to hearing about your lucid adventures

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunatly i do not have an iPod, but i think i can rig my MP3 to do the same thing . As to the second part of my question. Do you have any suggestions for the first method of induction i should use?

I can't really say that any particular method is best to start out with, however the MILD technique seems to be the most common for beginners. This is also the method which is most recommended (or has worked best) for Steven LaBerge - if you don't know that name I really recommend reading his book Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming (it is pretty much the bible to lucid dreaming).

MILD consists mainly of inducing the thought of knowing you will remember your dreams and recognize when you're dreaming. This thought is carried into your dream and you then become lucid.

If you have identified a particular dreamsign, then you would be able to become lucid through a DILD. In a DILD you are tipped off to the fact that you are dreaming by something within the dream itself. By knowing what your dreamsign is, you'll be able to use that dreamsign as your cue,

A slightly more advanced method is WILD technique, in which you practice staying half awake and half asleep untill you're able to go right into the dream without ever losing your consciousness or "awareness".

While you may think that you have a bit more control on whether you will lucid dream when you're doing the WILD technique, it is probably best you start with the MILD or DILD so that you can at least get the feel of lucid dreaming.

WOW thanks for the quick reply. I think ill combine a couple methods as i already perform 1/2 hourly reality checks. I did try a WILD, thinking that i would be able to get in easy i know see it doesnt wirk that way. Thanks for the advice
