      hello, an introduction!

my name is caroline and i just signed up for this board due to a renewed interest in actively pursuing lucid dreaming. this is something i have done on an off since around 8th grade, when i began to have frequent spontaneous lucid dreams. since then, I have become very fascinated with any number of sleep phenomenon.

recently i began experimenting with the holosync delta and theta waves before sleep in an effort to remember my dreams. while this did work, in addition to having very intense hypnogogic experiences, it also caused a cascading effect of sleep paralysis/night terrors early in the morning when i stopped sleeping with headphones. after a few months, however, i began to have very, very vivid dreams and was able to realize the night terrors for what they were and surpass them.

a few nights ago i had a spontaneous lucid dream wherein i woke up in a room full of strangers who all clapped for me when i materialized in chair in the center of the room. they cheered, as if happy that i had finally become fully lucid without waking up immediately. i began to fly and explore the space. it was really amazing to me how much control i could exert over my dream body.

anyway, i also have some theories about the relationship between sleep paralysis/night terrors/lucid dreaming, and the endogenous production of DMT by the pineal gland during sleep. DMT , called the spirit molecule, is released by the pineal gland, our very own and very real third eye. i'm really hoping that i can explore some of my ideas and contribute to this forum. thanks so much!

Hey there and welcome to the forum!!
Congrats on the LDs! It would seem you are a natural. And if you want to discuss the 3rd eye stuff, you should really discuss them in the 'Beyond Dreaming' forum, okay?
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Hey, Caroline. It's great to have you!! You know, I read a book called The Spirit Molecule on DMT. It's good to know that you are also educated on the subject.
      Shine on, you crazy diamond!

if you enjoyed that book ,- the spirit molecule- you should look into terrence mckenna and daniel pinchbeck's books on contemporary shamanism. really great stuff! both talk about dmt frequently, and their work is what informs my assertion that there is a connection b/w dmt and lucid dreaming/other visionary phenomena

i will definitely try to read as much as i can in each of the forums so i'm not repeating anything that's old news or going off topic. but, if necessary, i wont be offended if i need to be steered back to the point.

ooh, another huge interest of mine is the idea that the "great work" of alchemy was not to create physical gold, but to gain full control over one's dreams. the alchemical formulas and "doses" were actually methods of intensifying one's concentration for that purpose. i suspect i might spend a lot of time in that "beyond lucid dreaming" forum.

anyway, great to be here, and thanks for being so welcoming!

I love it when someone can conquer nightmares/terrors via lucid dreaming. It's nice to know LDs can have a clinical application like that, rather than just for recreation.

      welcome

      Hey Corazon and
recently i began experimenting with the holosync delta and theta waves before sleep in an effort to remember my dreams[/b]
Curious, how were you experimenting with these stages, were you reaching them through meditation or with use of drugs? Are you refering to auto-suggestion techniques within those stages or where you doing something a bit more scientific or material?

I remember seeing this "DMT" thing being discussed here before - I did a search for it (whithin Dream Views) and came across a couple postings you may want to look over (if you haven't already). I gotta admit I've pretty much dismissed it as just another hallucinogenic drug - but you've got me curious about it now.

      DMT and Dreaming
      DMT (dimethyltryptamine) v. Lucid Dreaming
      DMT enhanced dreams

There were quite a few other ones as well. I recommend using the search feature up at the top of the page. It actually works! (as opposed to search features I've come across on other sites )

oh, i was refering to the holosync cd's!
      http://www.centerpointe.com/

they have audio cd's that you can listen to in your sleep, or right before sleep. they induce theta or delta waves, (or alpha or beta) depending on which track you choose. they've helped me a lot in many ways during my waking ours (espcecially in reference to my "attention deficit disorder." i swear these cd's helped me learn to focus and use parts of my brain that made my chaotic life a lot easier!) but i wanted to learn if these cd's could also be used for gain in dreams, and i found that they definitely can!

thank you for linking to those posts, i will definitely check them out. my interest in DMT is not in its drug form, but in the fact that it is actually produced by our own brains. that's why it's such a short "trip," our bodies recognize it and metabolize it quickly. the pineal gland is located in the center of the brain, and in lizards & amphibians, is literally an eye- with a retina. our own pineal glands are light sensitive. literally they are our third eye. if the goal is to awaken one's third eye, then it would seem that the goal is actually to also learn to control the flow of DMT in our own bodies, perhaps inspiring visionary experiences/lucid dreams at will.

i will absolutely try to employ use of the search function in the future and save everyone a little trouble!

Oooooh... holysinc are audio induction CDs!? (duh!) Ok I see now. Well I'm not familiar with that particular line, however, I have heard something that's probably similar when I was at a dreamcamp last year. This CD had a narrator which took you through the 61 point relaxation technique. I wasn't so sure it was going to work on me at first, but I did catch myself "zoned out" at one point and had a little lapse in time.

There are some cheesy knock-offs out there that are merely recordings of amateur new age artists playin around with their recently purchased synthizisers. I have a CD (which I haven't listened to yet) that came with LaBerge's latest book and it says it includes the 61-point along with other 'daytime' excersises. I outta pop that thing in sometime.

there's actually no instruction on the tracks- although i have used those types of audio as well with good results. the holosync cd's contain specially designed sound waves (not exactly sure of how the science of that works) that are embedded in soothing music tracks. in conjunction with some concentrated thought, they really do inspire a more regulated sleep cycle that can lead to vivid and lucid dreams. (and although i dont want to advocate downloading music, you can search the terms "holosync" and "delta" or "theta" on something like limewire and hit the jackpot)

Ah, you must be refering to the binaural beats. There's a free app out there which you can download and customize to your liking, then export as a sound file and use (no purchase necessary ). The application is called BrainWaveGen (follow above link).

I will go ahead and endorse the product even though I stopped using it (out of trying not to become dependent on it -- and also too lazy to put the new pattern I created on my iPod! ) The link will explain how it works, but based on the theory that if your brain is exposed to a particular frequency (delta, theta, etc), it will "adjust" itself and "tune" itself to that frequency. By programing when and for how long you play these frequencies you can essentially control your sleep pattern. It's not perfect, but I notice the shift in alertness/drowsyness as frequency changes. If anything it really did help me fall asleep faster (which I normally have trouble doing).

      hey caroline,

you wouldnt consider starting a thread based on your research and views of DMT? that would be great. ive checked out the other ones briefly, but none of them mention the things you have. so a new thread couldnt hurt, especially one that isnt all about "dude, should I try DMT or not? " ect.

      btw, welcome and happy LD-ing!

Woa, I've meandered to a very similar conclusion over the years--the Great Work being some kind of awakening to a strong astral/dreaming capability which allows the practitioner to "activate" formulas, rituals, sigils, and inert and sentient objects.
Good to have you aboard the forums; I look forward to hearing more about this.
listen: there's a hell of a good universe next door: let's go.
