Is this a good way to start off?

I have yet to lucid dream, and after a long break if not trying, I'm going to go at it again.

I'm using a MP3 found in a thread on this forum, and I plan on looping it right before I go to bed at a low level. Should I repeat what the voice says during the pauses?

Also, I'm going to read up on some inducing techniques, HILD, WILD, MILD, VILD, etc., and would it be an added bonus to perform one of those, while just listening or listening and repeating the voice?

I also plan on doing reality checks throughout the day, specifically plugging the nose and trying to breathe.

On a side note, I'm thinking about looping the voice at a low level throughout the day, as I spend most of my spare time on the computer, maybe that might help out in the long run. I also enjoy to have something playing in the background, like music, but I don't listen to the lyrics.

EDIT: The WILD seems the only one to appeal to me, my sleep is limited, as I go to sleep around 9-10, and wake up at 5:00 AM sharp.

I found the same mp3, and have SORT OF been using it. Sorta. If it's the one I'm thinking of... the one with waves and a male voice, right?

Good question. Well, I can tell you from personal experience, that for me listening to the mp3 DOESN'T help when doing a WILD. It's too distracting. Actually, I do quite the opposite... in a lot of my WILD attempts, I've been wearing earplugs to shut out all outside noise. (Also, but this is just my opinion, HILD and VILD are just sub-types of WILD)

As for MILD? Well, I've TRIED this. No success. BUT I didn't stick at MILD for long, because WILD is my preferred method BY FAR. However, in my opinion, IF you can fall asleep with the mp3 playing, and the earphones don't slip out, the mp3 SHOULD help your MILD attempts, acting as a sort of reinforcer to make you RC in the dream. It's a good idea, and is what the mp3 was designed for, I think. I reckon, try using the mp3 in conjunction with MILD, and be persistant!

This is a great idea, and something I might try myself, actually. I already have this mp3 on my iPod, so... yeah. It could definitely be of some help, and you could actually use the mp3 as a do-it-yourself dreamsign to check for: if you RC during the day while listening to the mp3, AND remember to consciously LINK your RC's with the sound of the mp3, it makes sense that if you listen to the mp3 while asleep, you should have an increased chance of performing reality checks, and getting a DILD or a successful MILD as a result.

Me too. WILD is by FAR my preferred method. HOWEVER, it takes a lot of work and dedication to get right, and it's a long process of trial and error. On the upside of that, however, failed WILD attempts can actually be fun on their own, especially if you get cool Hypnogogic Imagery and sounds. The vibrations can also be fun... As a sidenote, I'm following pretty much the exact same sleep schedule as you: sleep at 9pm, wake at 5pm or 6pm.
