A good recall is a very good start. This is why a dream journal is important.
But lucid dreaming often requires confidence in the person doing it.
You say that you CAN'T. But you can.
You probably just do not think so at this point.

The Tutorials are always a good place to begin.

For my first LD I simply repeated to myself before I went to bed over & over to recognize the fact that I am dreaming. And I did! .

Unfortunately, there's no sure-fire way to have an LD every time. It's highly dependant on the dreamer.

But it sounds like you're on the right track practicing different techniques. Don't be so quick to say they don't work, though. LDing can take A LOT of practice, so a technique may need some personal "tweaking" of your own invention to make it work. Even experienced LDers don't attain lucidity right on cue every single time. Everyone attains lucidity slightly differently - you just need to find out what works for you.

So keep plugging away and try new things. By the laws of probability - you're bound to have an LD sooner or later.
