      Hello, I'm New.

I just wanted to start a thread and say a bit about myself.

I'm Lisa and I'm 15 living in the US.

I've wanted to learn how to control my dreams for quite some time now and today I decided I should google it and see what I can find, and that is how I found this site.

I've realized now that I've had a lot of lucid dreams, ever since I was little. But there's a lot that I don't remember. There are also some times when I'm dreaming and I start to question if I'm dreaming or not, which I'm not really sure is a lucid dream. And I've just asked my mom and she said she's always had lucid dreams and thinks I'm crazy that it doesn't happen with everyone.

I also remember once when I was thinking about something that I really wanted to dream about and I actually dreamt about it, but I didn't have control over what I was doing. So after that I've always tried to think about what I want to dream about right before I go to sleep but I always think way too much and let my mind wander and it usually takes about 10 to 90 min. for me to sleep depending on if I'm tired or not and it's practically impossible for me to think about one single thing for an hour.

So I think that's enough rambling for me.
      Any tips for a beginner?

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

By chance, did you know you were dreaming during the time? LDing doesn't mean vividness, or control, but means that you are aware you are dreaming during the time having it.

Yes, I knew I was dreaming at the time. I have those all the time, just the thing that's hard for me is to have control. I only remember a couple of dreams where I've actually made decisions for myself rather than just doing it for no reason or have it played out for me.

Okay, that means you were LDing. It is okay if you don't have control, just as long as you know you are dreaming. To get more control takes a bit of practice.

      Re: Hello, I'm New.

Welcome, Lisa, to DV! I hope that we can help you out here so if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

I've come across other people who believe that everyone knows that they're dreaming and were surprised to hear that many people don't. It's funny how some of them can be very indignant about it!

So you're having problems controling your dreams. Well, becoming lucid you're already off to a good start, but it's just practice that you need. I have two pieces of advice for you.
      1. Come up with a plan ahead of time and decide what you want to do before you go to sleep. It's not always enough to incubate a dream (as I think you've been doing) where you come up with an idea for what you want to dream about, but incorporate things such as how you intend to stay lucid and what you want to accomplish.

      2. Remain confident. Kind of building on the last point of having a plan, it is necessary to know that you can do whatever you want. A lot of people become lucid and start thinking "What if..." and nothing gets done. When you decide on what you want to do, just go ahead and do it and know that if you want to fly that you'll lift off the ground and fly. If you want to visit someone, they will be exactly where you expect them to be. If something's going wrong, just freeze the scene by shouting out "FREEZE!"

I hope that this was helpful. Let me know if there's anything more you need help with. We're glad you joined us!

      Re: Hello, I'm New.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try it tonight
It probably won't work though because I don't know how to explain it butI don't really know how to start controlling myself in my dreams. It just starts playing out for me and I just let it happen and I don't know how to stop it. I can't explain it that well

Well, what do you want to do? Maybe we can help. The biggest thing is just to use your imagination! If you want to fly, there are a hundred different ways you can do that as long as you know it's possible. There's a tutorial on it, actually, if you want to take a look.

But what do you want to do?

Hm... flying would be nice. Or maybe going to some location or meeting someone. Do I need to be specific?

It's best to be specific so that when you become lucid you don't have to think about all the details. For flying, take a look at the Tutorial and see which one (or ones) you'd like to try. Just go for it!

      Going to a location
You could fly there, or there are a couple other things you can do. You can walk through a random door and end up where you want to be. You can start spinning and when you stop you'll be where you want to be. You can even just turn around and expect to be in that place. You an ask someone to take you there.

      Meeting someone
Well, last time I did this it didn't work, but I didn't expect the person to be there. Next time I'm going for someone else that I haven't seen in a long time..... Anyway, you can try calling out their name. You can invite them to wherever you're at. You can walk through a door or open a door and they'll be there. Use your imagination. How else would you meet someone in real life?

The biggest thing is knowing that it WILL happen. Don't spend time thinking, "What if..." Just go for it! Jump off a cliff if you have to ... just make sure that you really are dreaming, though.
