The point of RCs is to make it become a habit and as such, carry it over to dreams. When doing this, it's very important that you're conciously asking yourself whether or not you're dreaming.
I bet you're at times doing RCs every second, but then a while later you will not be doing some for a good period of time because you stopped thinking about it. What helps is actually trying to look at everything like it's a dream, even if you're sure you're not dreaming. This will make you more aware of yourself. That's the key to becoming lucid in DILDs. Try to be aware at all times (this will prove to be impossible, but keep trying cause then you will be as much as possible). By being aware I mean doing an RC maybe once or twice, but keep looking at your surroundings and yourself "knowing" everything is a dream.
Especially think you might be dreaming when you notice something strange. It doesn't have to be a big purple bunny floating by, cause that's (probably) not gonna happen in waking life. Just do an RC whenever something even remotely strange happens. Anything that doesn't usually happen. Also, never try to find explanations for strange occurences before checking whether or not your dreaming, even if you're sure you aren't.

Long story short: In order to have a better chance of doing a RC in dreams, be aware of reality in waking life. If you do that you may do the same in dreams.
      A dream
is a reality that others cannot see.
      Reality
is a dream you share with others.
