      well hello
im 19, from Ireland and i've been having Lucid dreams, mostly stemming from ASP for 4-5 years now..
my first occured 4 years ago, i had had several episodes of asp, and after initially thinking i was dying, as you do, i was now aware of what was happening to me and on one occasion managed to slip into a lucid dream in which i floated up off my bed, out my skylight window and up into the air, where i observed my body lying on my bed, i then proceeded to fly across my neighbourhood, and then woke up..

I have about 8-10 dreams which i have been having constantly sinced i was at least 10, and that was the next stage, i started to become aware i was dreaming during these, and i would begin to control them, for example; I have one particular dream in which the field behing my house is completely built up with houses, i am walking through this new little suburb and there are lots of people around, they are usually people from my past and eventually i come to a house made from sweets and standing at the door there is a witch (lol, you know what im getting at) basically the first lucid dream of this kind that i had involved me taking control of the dream and confronting the witch, and intellectually flaming her..it was quite enjoyable..not as much as flying but enjoyable none the less..

Anyhow, the reason why i have ended up here is basically this: I have always really had lucid dreams ..however there is one particular situation i can't master and that is night terrors, i have always had terrible night terrors now and then, but recently its been happening nearly every second night, or at least twice a week..I will go to bed because i know i have to and i'll try not think about whats going to happen but i do feel like if i had a choice i would choose not to sleep because of it.. They are definitely getting worse, I am now seeing dark figures and devil like creatures and experiencing being strangled and all sorts, whats terrible about night terrors is they are much harder to wake yourself from than ASP...with ASP, you can move a part of your body and wake up or even drag your body up out of the bed, but with night terrors you just flail about while whatever your imagining is there is crushing you, strangling you etc..it just seems to be much harder to wake from, i find that i dream i have woken up again and again and again, only to slip back into the NT again until i find i have finally woken up for real and i am out of breath and completely shaken and frustrated..

So yes, i would like to learn how to get myself out of night terrors and into a lucid dream.. I have at this stage mastered the art of realising a night terror probably isnt real, relaxing myself a bit and trying not to let a it bother me but its not really getting rid of it, it still seems to last forever wether im letting it get to me or not..

So i look forward to reading what i can about NT control and all lucid dream topics
nice to find such a place

Hi there Welcome to the forum!

I'm sure you'll find everything you need here to learn more about LDing and more. You should also check out the Beyond Dreaming forum about the ASP you experienced. I'd also recommend reading through the tutorials for more information about LDing, and specifically stopping the nightmares.

Please feel free to post any questions or experiences you may have. Good luck and have fun!

      Hi Orla, and

I would say its very unfortunate about your night terrors, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to sympathize with you because of how blessed you are with your level of lucid dreaming! Still, I will do my best to help you

One thing you may want to try in your next terror is to neither flee nor fight - but instead try and accept. Inquire all you can about this aggressor in your dreams. Ask it's name, where it comes from, why it's chasing you. You may find that your attacker will then start to morph or change into something else as you gain more confidence being around it. Once it has "settled down", I would recommend you go as far as to make friends. Offer it a candy bar, take it out to lunch, whatever.

I realize this can all be hard to remember when you're in the thick of the terror -but you appear to have some good recall and lucid ability and should be able to accomplish this without too much trouble.

I hope you get to try this techinque and I really look forward to hearing how it all works out. Good luck!

thanks burns, i'll definitely check out the beyond dreams forum, that sounds good..

tornado- thanks for your advice, yes i can see what you mean..
it is hard to remember these things when your experiencing a night terror, i do find, and i know this is terribly lazy of me, but because i get them so often, i suffer from emotional exhaustion due to it and when i get another one i just think no! i will not let this happen again and struggle violently and i completely dispare and i think this is something that only prolongs what is happening..so, i think your right, i need to accept it once again and kind of go back to the drawing board and learn how to be calm about it, and perhaps they'll pass quicker..

hehe! yes, i dont really know how i got to be so lucky with lucid dreaming, its been withme since before i even knew what it was, and generally, you know...people dont really talk about any of his stuff, and if you do they think your into black arts or something so i just thought i was either mad or special..but hey, you dont really complain do you if you go on your own personal flight across the skies every now and then..

its nice to be here though, ye know...i was out the other night with 2 very good friends of mine, now the friends i have are generally intelligent and spiritual otherwise i wouldn't be friends with them but even so.. i said, "so ive been getting asp and night terrors again, theyre really messin up my life at the moment" i then went into explaining what i was talking about..the reaction was something like- ...so that was obviously a big mistake.. "No one has a finer command of language than the person who knows how to keep his mouth shut-Sam Rayburn"

yep, glad to be here... thanks guys

Hi! Welcome to the forum. I think the people who have previously replied have pretty much anwered your questions in regards to night terrors, but I do have one thing to add. Have you ever considered using meditation as a tool for overcoming these night terrors? I have had success before with meditation, but I've never tried it for night terrors because I don't have any, but if it works for other things that affect your attitude and mind, I don't see why it wouldn't work. By the way, it's awesome that you have decided to join us?
