Hey Dude, I'm new too. Pleased to meet you. Might as well get started with this "expanding each other's knowledge" thing... I have been dreaming lucidly for three to four years now and have found a couple of very good techniques for prolonging you Lucid Dreams.
The first I would suggest has probably been suggested to you before (it's on many a Lucid Dreaming site) but incase it hasn't, here goes: as soon as you realise you're dreaming (don't wait till it starts to fade because it may not fade, it might flash you off into waking consciousness) start spinning around like you're a child trying to make him/herself dizzy. Once you're spinning, specify your intent as to where, who, what, &c. you would like after you stop. This REALLY works. The first time I did this successfully, I prolonged a dwindling dream four times so that the overall dream seemed to last at least an hour of 'real time'! And after the fourth spin I suggested to myself that I would like to meet my Spirit Guides- and I did... it was beautiful to say the least.
Another awesome technique which can have SPECTACULAR results is to upon becoming lucid sit where you are in a meditative position and close your dream eyes. Breathe deeply (as you would in waking life) and concentrate only on bringing peace, harmony and calm to your self. This allows you to gather your thoughts and awareness and may lead to a very enlightening experience. From this position I strongly recommend drawing a white light to yourself in the form of Divinity... then see what happens!
Dae,
Rob.
