      Hi all,

I have tried to LD a few times before. But have never really got anywhere, I have read this site and its great! I made a dream journal before sleeping last night and recalled 2 dreams. I read about LD'ing alot yesterday and have a couple of questions

      1) I have read somewhere that you can be mentally harmed by WILD is this true?

      2) Can dreams feel longer than they really are when your lucid (like month long dream but only really a night)?

      Thanks for reading!

      Howdy.

      1) Nope. Where'd you get that from?
[Well, actually, YES. If you WILD, get into a lucid dream and happen to see some disturbing that stuff that could mentally damage you, haha, then yeah. But that goes for everything related to dreaming then ]
      2) Yes and no. A lot of dreams are in realtime, and thus 1 second is 1 second. BUT: There have been people that have claimed to have enlengthened their LDs to be a day, month, week and even a year long (and there was this Tibetan Monk that said he had even spent a lifetime in a lucid dream), while a REM cycle is only 90 minutes so most of the time that's pretty much where it ends.

      Hope I helped.

One more question, I have been told that WILD is the best method for inducing dreams, also it seems to be the most popular around the forums. My question is is it the easiest to learn or the best method? I have read the 5 stages of WILD post (which is really helpful) and I have had SP before about a year or so ago. I was having a dream then woke up and my body was all numb i got really scared because I didnt know what was going on.

      Thanks again for reading

      Hey Twister,

I have never had any success with WILDs at all! I don't know if that is just me, but it seems bloody difficult. In my opinion the easiest technique is to really work your dream journal; lots of detail, feeling, expression and all in the present tense. Crank up your awareness during the day (reality checks, whatever, just BE aware, alert) and this will translate into your dreams. With your strengthening awareness you'll begin noticing the anomolies more easily. Consistency and strong intent is the key!

Yes and no. WILD is not the best method. Here's the thing: Everybody is different. There is no "one size fits all" technique, or a "best" technique. WILD is very hard since the thing is:
      1) You can hardly do it without 6 hours of sleep before (only a very small amount of people manage to do that without waiting a loooong, looong time)
      2) If you WBTB (sleep before that so you instantly enter REM), the problem is that people usually fall asleep and thus fail the WILD or go "fuck this, I just want to sleep"
That being said, once you know the trick and are more or less able to WILD successfully most of the time, yeah, it is a very good technique. DILDs (since DILD is just a "category" of attaining lucidity, it just means you become lucid within a dream, rather than WILD which just means you have a transition from the waking state to a lucid dream and never lose consciousness. DILD and WILD arn't techniques, they are just names for categories of attaining lucidity) on the other hand are way more common and once you've achieved DILDs as will, wouldn't you say that's the best technique? There is only one best technique which is willpower. If you have 100% faith in yourself, you can induce lucidity at will every night through willpower. I only know of 2-3 people who can do this though. Don't be scared about SP or anything like that btw, if it was harmful, it would've been at least notified somewhere on this website

See post above. WILD is difficult for one, easy for the other (though mostly difficult for people, I've listed reasons in the post above). Again, "easiest" and "best" techniques don't exist. It differs per person.

Hey there Twister, and welcome to DV!

It can be important to try a number of different methods so that you can find which is best for you. But also make sure that you give each method a fair chance. Practice one exclusively (for this purpose, I would include the combination of two different methods, such as MILD + WBTB, as one method to be attempted), and stick with each one for at least a week or two before moving on to the next. It can take some people several days up to several weeks to train their mind to respond to these methods.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
