Hi I have just joined this forum and have been reading about lucid dreaming for a while now, the problem is that they key to ataining an LD is recaling your dream and realise you are dreaming. Well I am stuck at a fundamental barrier by the fact that I cannot recall dreams what so ever, I dream about once a month if I am lucky, I don't think I am a deep sleeper and its not down to the fact that I am tired i usually get 9 hours + of sleep minimum.
I am just wondering is there anyway to get myself to recall dreams easily?

cheers, aaron

First up, hello and welcome to the forum!

Now, onto the matter at hand. There are ways to stop this, including:

1. Reptetion to ones self before falling asleep that you will remember your dreams. Something as simple as repeating "I will remember my dreams" to youself really does help.

2. Upon waking, instead of widely opening your eyes and taking in your surounding, try to trace back what you were doing perviously.

3. If you can't remember any dreams, try to take note of the emotions you are feeling upon waking. These may be linked to your dreams, for example you may feel sad because you drempt a loved one died. Focusing on this emotion can help trigger memories.

Hi, riedy- and welcome to DV.

One piece of advice that I can give you is that often alarm clocks can cause you to forget your dreams, because they distract you from any thoughts/ recollections of dreams that you may have had the previous night. So try to wake up without an alarm, or use a very soft alarm.

Two points of real direct action to take to literally gain recall, even from none:

- During the day, practice periodical memory training. Meaning, several times a day, close your eyes and think back throughout the amount of the day that has passed. Remember everything (either in order from morning until the moment or backwards) in as much detail as possible. Don't stress yourself though, no need to spend too much time on this but just enough to have a clear trail of events in mind.

- Every single time you wake up, no matter when, where or how - put effort into recalling what you were just dreaming of. Close your eyes and think back in the same manner you do during memory training. The dreams will flow in steadily.

Having a good memory is the key to dream recall.
Good luck!

Welcome to DV.

As D said repeat to yourself "I will remember my dreams" always works for me.
Also make a dream journal and write down what you remember from your dreams as soon as you wake up dream journals help to induce LD's as they can help you to notice dreams signs as well.

hey thanks for the replys, from what Merlock has bieng saying I have a very poor short term memory although a very good longterm one, so shortterm memory is maybee the problem with rembering dreams?.

also if you are extreamly tired will you dream more/more vivid dreams (easier to remember) or is going to sleep early a better option?

thanks again, aaron

You have to be insistent with the mantra. Don't just say it likes it's nothing - CONVINCE yourself that you will remember your dreams.

Starry starry night, paint your pallet blue and gray,
Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.
