Hey everyone, I'd love for you to read about my experiences and comment on them, I have lots of questions!

First I'll start off with frequency, I have had probably only 4-5 lucid dreams, and a few other episodes (which I’ll explain in a second) since I had my first, probably 5-6 years ago (I am 20).

Every lucid dream I have had (until last night) I would immediately wake up right after realization, because I got too excited. But last night I had a dream in which I was talking to a friend, and something struck me odd, and I realized, this isn't reality this has to be a dream, so my first thought was to contain my excitement.

I turned to my friend and said, hey this isn’t real this is a dream, you aren't real! And it was almost like he was playing dumb, knowing he was just a figment, and he says "I don't know what you are talking about." So I took him outside of the building we were in, and I thought, I have to do something to prove to myself this is a dream.

So I jumped in the air and hovered for a few seconds, then landed, and told my friend "watch this, you are going to bounce" so I grabbed him and jumped up about 150 feet and dropped him while I hovered there, and at this point I think "this better be a dream," and sure enough he bounced up and back onto his feet
after that I woke up.

---Another interesting thing that has happened to me a few times was when I would take a nap at an odd time, my mind would wake up, and I would realize my position and where I was, and that I was conscious, but I couldn't move! When this happens I can't move or open my eyes. I am just there and I put all my strength into making any sort of action and I can't until I fully wake up. Naturally this is very scary especially the first couple times it happened but the 2 times it happened after that I was ready and just waited it out... it only lasts less than a minute. <--- Does anyone know what it is I have experienced?

--Also sometimes I wonder whether it is true lucidity or if it is just dreaming you are having a lucid dream. how can you tell?

Hi, welcome!
That sounds like a lucid dream. The "not being able" to move is probably sleep paralysis. I haven't had one fully concious yet. And a lucid dream is any dream, in which you are aware that you are dreaming.

Hi and welcome to the forun

Have you checked out the tutorials yet? It has lots of information about inducing LD's .
Also do you have a dream journal? it is a needed tool for improving dream recall and noticing dream signs.

See you around.

thanks to both of you! I looked up sleep paralysis, and I am sure that is what it was. and yes, I started a dream journal this morning! I look forward to learning more about lucid dreams and how to increase frequency/lucidity.

Hi, welcome to DV!!

Well, sounds like you are almost a natural, being as you've had four or five lucid dreams already...I would definitely check out the tutorial section and look up some of the induction techniques...you might do well with the WILD technique, having already experienced sleep paralysis and been conscious of it...

I had a similar experience to you the other day with a dream character, trying to get them to tell someone else in the dream that this was a dream, but he wouldn't do it...
I guess you got lucky!

"3. What you might see is random flashing and streaks of color. Look carefully at this blackness. This is all the beginning of the your brains imagery, (Hypnologic imagery). You need to watch this imagery but do not focus hard, your vision needs to be relaxed, your eyelids should gently be closed not forced shut. Some solid objects and scenes should appear."

Holy cow i've done just that! I didn't mention it in my first post because it got too long, but during one of my sleep paralysis episodes, I saw flashing lights and a loud hum, that i could control, I could feel myself slipping out of waking consciousness, and the lights and noise would increase in speed, and i would bring myself right to the edge, and then back out again, I did it several times back and forth but I didn't know what would happen if I went over the "edge"

It felt real enough, but i recalled it with about the same clarity as a very vivid dream. I don't know if lucid dreams are supposed to still dreamlike in recollection, or are supposed to me markedly more vivid.
