Wink

Hihi! I am alex and i am taking a psychology course in highschool. These next two weeks we are focusing on the states of consciousness and we are suppose to be keeping a dream journal. I have recorded one nights worth of dreams (last nights) and am going to get better results tonight. I didnt really record any dreams but rather just images that came to mind. One of these images that i saw was just so apparant to me that the subconscious mind is separate from the real mind.

I had a vision that i was in my grandmothers law office in the receptionist's room. A little fat girl with pigtails and an angry look sat on one of the leather chairs eating an ice cream cone.

The end.

How am i going to interpret this? Today is my mother birthday. Let me explain. My grandmother flew out of state this week and is in Mexico. My mom has been so angry about these types of things like how she is flying out for christmas ect ect. I interpret this as my mom being the little fat girl who gets what she wants but doesnt like how she got it. She gets the presents and the i love yous but the thing she needs most isnt really there.

Sound like a good interpretation? i hope so, it is my first .

Anyways. I am here to learn about lucid dreaming. Since the first day about the states of consciousness i have been reading up on lucid dreaming and have been facinated. I have a few questions that i have not found

1. When you wake up from a lucid dream do you start to remember it or do you just say WOW THAT WAS AN AWESOME LUCID

2. Do you need to record your lucid dreams like other normal dreams to remember them?

3. Is what you do in your lucid dream really what YOU want to do?

Thank you and am going to have a lucid dream this month.

You may be saying why is he saying i AM going to do this stuff and not i WANT to. My psychology teacher said to be demanding to your subconsciousness to tell it that want to have something and you will. Simply wanting it isnt enough. This is partly why i think i didnt get great results from last night. I was sort of shy in saying out loud I AM GOING TO WAKE UP AFTER MY DREAMS AND REMEMBER IT and i only remembered them right after i woke up at 6:30 this morning. Tonight i will wake up at least twice to record my dreams. i should be going through at least 3 rem cycles and approximately 4. I will have a lucid dream. This is my new hobby i can devote 8 hours a day to every day for the rest of my life.

1) Well I remember it first then go "wow that was cool."

2) I find that I can remember my lucids better then a regular dream but it does help to record them.

3) It depends on the level of control I have. My first few LDs had no control but the last few I did what I wanted. The annoying thing is I have forgotten what I wanted to do in some.

Hope this helps.

A dream journal is def. going to help you with your dream recal, and even memory in general (as long as you are persistant with it). So the fact that you need to do it for a class is a plus plus in my opinion.

I had a vision that i was in my grandmothers law office in the receptionist's room. A little fat girl with pigtails and an angry look sat on one of the leather chairs eating an ice cream cone.

Theres a whole section on the forums dedicated to Dream Interpretations. In my honest opinion, Dreams can be as random as they feel, or can be worries you have, that are replaying themselves. For instance, if you arent brushing your teeth...you may dream about loosing all your teeth. Stuff like that. I personally dont go much farther in dream interpretations, and im not quick to take dreams very literally. But to each their own right? Anyway heres the interpretation forum for you. http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/index.php?showforum=23

As for if its a good interpretation or not...well that really is based on opinion..not fact If it feels true to you than i guess so right? But i dont recommend living your life based off dream interpretations. Its sort of like those ...pseudo psychics you hear about every now and then...that claim to be psychics, but really are just quick witted (if that). They sort of say very vague, general things about people, which could ring true with a million different people, in a million different scenarios. Take it with a grain of salt. So tahts where i stand i guess on dream interpretation...but this doesnt mean you have to agree with me.

1. When you wake up from a lucid dream do you start to remember it or do you just say WOW THAT WAS AN AWESOME LUCID
Well...saying "wow" sort of goes hand in hand with remembering it. Any lucid dream in my opinon is going to be a neat experience for me. As for how much you remember, or even if you remember it at all, depends on many things. Your dream recall, (which a Dream Journal can greatly enhance), and even what activites you do right after you wake up, and throughout the day. Some activities can trigger scenes that happened in your dream, but also laying in bed and sort of pulling yourself to a waking state in the morning and thinking about your dreams can help you remember.

2. Do you need to record your lucid dreams like other normal dreams to remember them?
Well if youre recording any type of dream, youre going to be recording down what you remember. The simple act of getting out a pen and paper isnt going to all of a sudden make the dream appear in its entirety in your mind. The point of a Dream Journal is to enhance your dream recal. So you may start a dream journal tonight and write down a fragment of 1 dream you had. This might continue for a week or so but then you might start remembering fragments from seperate dreams, and even a dream in its entirety. Remember...be persistant. If you remember a dream and its 2 am in the morning...write it down Keep the journal close by

3. Is what you do in your lucid dream really what YOU want to do?
As said above, this depends on the amount of control you have, (being lucid doesnt necesarily mean youre in control...Lucid means you KNOW youre dreaming..you may not have any control at all).

There are many ways to make a dream more vivid/lucid, and to help you gain control. Studying your dream hands, rubbing them together, spinning, yelling out "Clarity now" are just some of them. Note: they dont all work for everyone. Some people try and change their outfit, only to find nothing has changed, or theyve changed into a bright pink outfit, when they envisioned a leather jacket (just an example ).

Also, if you ahve any doubt about your ability, youre goign to fail. ANYthing is possible in a lucid dream. IF you want to change into a cat, you can do so, as long as you believe you can. Sort of the henry ford quote, "Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. "

I hope this helps and happy dreaming. BTW to the forums!

I think the answers to your questions would vary from person to person. (Especially #3) So even though several people have already responded with answers, I thought I'd treat it like a questionaire and toss in my two cents.

1. - When I wake up from a lucid dream I remember everything that happened as though I were awake when I had done it. Some times there are little spots when I'm not sure exactly how I went from doing one thing to doing another, but that is generally only when my lucidity isn't very strong.

2. - This depends on the person, the level of lucidity, and whether you had the dream immediately before awakening or not. Writing down exactly what happened as soon as you wake up can definitely help you recall the details later though. I suppose that's similar to waking life. I find that I have no trouble remembering my lucid dreams if I don't write them down.

3. - This depends on the amount of control you have or are willing to use. For me, no. My control is pretty weak because I haven't been LDing for long and my dream characters are fairly uncooperative so I generally find myself fighting with the dream. (this could be anything from my furniture refusing to stay where it's suppose to, or my clothes suddenly going missing, or a dream character arguing with me.) BUT, it's really a matter of experience. Over time lucid dreaming becomes easier to achieve, and control.

Welcome to the Forum! I hope your dream interpretation project goes well.

hey guys thanks for the responses. Last night i woke up twice, once at 2 am and once at 4 am. I had a really hard time falling back asleep after 2 am because i was excited (Even though it ws a really boring dream) and the 4am one i barely remember. I also recalled my last rem dream which seemed to be the longest. Thank you and i hope to talk to you all in the future on this forum.

lets see yesterday i said i would wake up with a dream last night i said i would wake up with a lucid dream (Which i didnt the first and second times) so tonight maybe i will do what i wanted to do last night and have a lucid woooh

Hi and Welcome!
For the first question, to me it feels like I have been awake the whole time. I usually wake up directly from the LD, so I kind of know when I'm going to wake up while still dreaming.
For the third question, if you believe that you can do it it will happen. Not should as you said but WILL. With that logic and expectations, I had a lot of controll in my first LD, though I was too excited and didn't really concentrate and think about what I wanted to do. It feels great though .

3. you can do what you want when you want in your lucid dreams lol when you want is even literal since you can change the time of day. ( most of my lds happen in a night time setting so comes in handy for me! lol)
