Hi, Jason, and welcome!
I'll try to answer your questions:
First of all, it's "spontaneous" (dictionary.com is your friend)
1) Length can vary greatly from one dream to the next, and from one person to another. Most of mine only last a few minutes. The longest I've had was probably about 15-20 minutes. However, some people report having lucid dreams that seem to last for days, months, or even years.
2) Everyone gets SP, but not everyone realizes it. Your body goes into SP every time you fall asleep. The only time you're aware of it is if your mind "stays awake" as your body goes to sleep, or if you wake up suddenly and your mind becomes aware before your body is really awake. As far as I know, there is no way to stop it, but it's nothing to be afraid of.
3) Either way, I think. Once your mind is awake, your body will follow shortly.
4) Yes, you can definitely feel things in a dream. One of the best ways to stabilze a lucid dream is to involve all of your senses in it, and that includes touching things. Not sure about morphing into an animal -- I've never done that.
Don't worry about asking too many questions -- that's the only way to learn, and it's what we're here for!
