      Greetings dreamers, new member here.

I was introduced to lucid dreaming last night while searching the web, and was immediatly interested in inducing my own lucid dreams. I know I've had plenty of dreams in which I know that I'm dreaming, like if something bad happens I can say, ahh its OK i'm only dreaming.
Unfortunately with a sleeping family closely surrounding me I didn't have the option of setting my alarm to wake me up in the middle of the night in attempt to have a WILD. So I just thought to myself in bed that I will have a lucid dream over and over. I believe I went to bed around 12:30.

Out of nowhere I felt a burst of energy in my head, and I remember thinking to myself, something like "it's happening!" I saw my dream-self, though I don't remember where, and I "told" myself to jump really high up and I did, I got really excited about this experience because it didn't feel like a dream really, it felt like a totally new, great sensation. I tried to contain myself, also amazed that I had recalled what I read about
stabilizing myself. I was too excited though...I started to wake up and I tried to picture myself spinning around and around but it didn't work, I opened my eyes. The clock read 4:05, I had been sleeping for roughly 3.5 hours.

I've never woken up after a deep sleep and been so awake with eyes wide open as last night. I couldnt sleep again for an hour, I kept thinking to myself to have another lucid dream because I really wanted too, but I kept opening my eyes and getting distracted. I guess I gave up and drifted off, this time having a non lucid dream that was pretty negative, about a missile blowing up at the top of my street, me running to the basement with my family, and being held in a concentration camp type thing with my family by these dark skinned people.
Anyway, did I have a lucid dream, what happened? Am I on the right path, for just my first night of discovering about all this? Has anyone else experienced this very short type of sensation, it lasted maybe 10 seconds, or atleast it seemed like that but I'm really not sure. Reason I ask is that I read that it takes a few weeks and practice for this type of thing to happen, and it happened not 6 hours after I read about it.
      Any input appreciated,
      thanks in advance

That's lucid. All that "Lucid" means is that you are AWARE that you are dreaming. Dream CONTROL is exactly that - control. You don't need control to be lucid.

Sounds like you had a smattering of lucidity there. You were aware you were dreaming for a little bit.

However, remember that you can have some level of dream control WITHOUT realising that you are dreaming. You don't need to be lucid to have dream control, and the vice-versa is also true - you don't need to have dream control to be lucid.

Yeah, you did have a low level lucid dream I think.

It's not at ALL unusual for a newbie to come to DV and say "Hey I had a lucid dream the night after reading the site!". It takes PRACTICE to be able to induce lucids, BUT, it's very common, especially for someone encountering and reading about lucid dreaming for the first time, to have an "accidental" lucid their first night. Sort of like, when you pick up a hobby, you get enthusiastic about it right at the start, and this enthusiasm means some initial success. Don't be disappointed, though, if you don't have another lucid for a bit. You might have to practice to make them come regularly.

Oh yeah, and WELCOME by the way.

TBM - Well man... now that you say he may not have a lucid for another bit and it was only "luck," he probably will not have another one for a while. It's all mental... don't tell him that he may not have one for a while Because honestly, Vic, the only reason at this point you do not have them more often is because you BELIEVE you won't have them.

Didn't say it was only luck. It was likely because of the enthusiasm he had, and the idea of LDing freshly implanted in his minds. If he replicated that combination in the future, he'd likely have more success.

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. Will let you know when it happens again.

Oh, and are there any alarm clocks out there that vibrate or something, so I can attempt a WILD without waking my whole family up?
      thanks

IF you want to wake up without disturibng anybody else
      use auto suggestion
before you go to bed, meditate and enter a trance state
auto suggest to your subconcious mind that you will wake up after 5-7 hours
      this very rarely fails4 me
theres a thread explaining how to do it in the tutoials section
called HILD and its by Gothlark
      (I think)
      good luck
      and
      welcome =)
