Hey. So I found out about lucid dreaming while I was researching entheogens, and didn't know it had a name up until a week or so ago. Before then I had been having lucid dreams maybe once a month and my friends never understood me when I tried to explain to them how these dreams worked. Since I read some tips on inducing lucid dreams I have had them almost everyday of the past week, and it's been fun. My most recent dream was particularly invigorating --- I had been calling down meteors, exploded a mountain and toppled a giant tree, all with just will and gestures. I have found gestures really help me in a lucid dream, if I were to share a tip (but I understand it's all psychological so this may have no relevance to others). Then I had tried to teleport, thinking to myself I had no idea how this would work, and my attempt only caused a flash of pinkish light and me awakening. Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning more about dreaming and this seems like a great place to pick up info.

Questions: Is it normal to converse with characters in your dream? It seems strange, but even when I'm conscious that I am dreaming I still carry on conversations with the figments of my imagination. And I'm fully aware of it --- for example in my dream I had told my friend I was lucid (out of excitement, mostly) and then I immediately questioned myself about the purpose of speaking to my imagination. Is this a precursor to some sort of psychosis?

Is it normal to feel fear in a lucid dream (it seems there would be no reason to)? I was flying in one, and had an urge to break cloud cover, but I have an immense fear of heights. As I was gaining altitude my fear was also increasing, until it caused me to lose control and I fell to the ground and woke up.

      Thanks for your time.

Never mind about that fear question. I guess feeling fear in a lucid dream could be explained the same way as why I would feel fear in a scary movie. Images and presentation can terrify, whether it is real or not.

      Hi, welcome!
Yes you sure can talk to your dream characters and probably everyone has done it. I think it has to do something with us being social animals, you recognise a human there and want to share something with him automatically, just an idea I had, might not be so far from the truth.
If you have fear of hights in waking life, then I don't see a reason why you wouldn't be afraid of it in your dreams too. In fact you can try to get rid of your fears with LDing.
Also, might I ask what tips on inducing LDs did you use to get lucids for the whole week?

      See you around!

I can't quite remember where I got these tips, but if you search 'induce lucid dreaming' I'm sure they'd come up.

I wrote the letter 'C' on the palm of my hand, and every time I noticed it I thought to see if I was conscious and performed reality checks (the two I use are pinching myself in front of my eyes and holding my nose shut and trying to breathe through it). Then I would try to intensely imagine that I was dreaming just by concentration and altering my sense of awareness (for about 10 seconds).

      Hi there, gray.

I've sent you a welcome PM but I thought I'd reply to your thread as well.

Talking to DCs is entirely normal, both in non-lucids and lucids. I like to think that when speaking to a DC, I am speaking to my mind's reconstruction of that DC from my memories, while at the same time, an element of my subconscious. It's not at all a precursor to any kind of psychosis, and in fact, conversations with DCs can be extremely interesting an illuminative.

Welcome to DV, by the way!

I would agree that talking to DCs is normal (and sometimes really funny). Also, I say it's also normal to be afraid in an LD. I have LDs where sharks attack me, and even though I know they are not real, they still frighten me. Welcome!
