I've only experience a mild form of SP, after waking up in the middle of the night and falling back asleep, but it was pretty "scary". I was half-awake, and had HI off the yin-yang. I kept hearing this low, devil-ish voice that was talking incoherently, so I couldn't understand it. It was more cool than scary.
I'm going to try again tonight. I'm going to try to forget about having a WILD and focus more on a MILD. Also a question, for MILDing, I don't HAVE to go asleep counciously right? Because if I do then it's classified as a WILD no?
Well, a lot of people have stated that they're having problems with saliva in their mouths. I've actually learned more about inducing SP than LDs sinces I've joined DV, and I had rarely experienced it in my life before.
From my experience, swallowing will NOT stop SP from occurring, as long as it's just a gentle, natural swallow. Don't swallow like you're wolfing down a triple-cheeseburger, and you should be fine. SP is induced by being two things: EXTREMELY relaxed to the point where you stop caring about what your body is sensing, and "entering REM directly from consciousness. The "entering REM directly" part is key, because if one were to just enter NREM sleep, there would be no SP. That's also why SP is accompanied so often by "visions" and such."
---
*EDIT* : Ok, I read some info on another post, and I was wrong probably! It appears one CAN enter SP without being in REM sleep. I always thought SP was ONLY during REM, so I just assumed that one could only enter SP while IN REM. Could somebody give a definite answer on this?

I don't know how to remove the fright from SP; it's just shocking at first, and I think for most people, entering SP multiple times is the only way to get "used" to it. How I used to do it was to visualize I was just listening to trippy rave-type music on my headphones. It seemed to help a little.
I for one have always had problems breathing when I enter SP. I remember when I was in high school, I used to fall asleep with my arms crossed over my desk and my head resting on top of them. I almost suffocated myself once when I actually entered SP! When I got SP in bed, I almost always was resting on my side; again, my mouth kind of was obstructed by the pillow, so it was hard to breathe. If I could only get SP with breathing room!...
Oh yeah: With MILD, you don't have to go to sleep consciously, you just gotta have a dream you recently had as preferably your last thought before losing consciousness.
I couldn't do it unfortanately because my cellphone didn't wake me up. I was pretty sleepy last night anyway so I guess that's what did it.
I find it easier for me to fall asleep when going to sleep on my right side. This won't greatly affect the chances would it? Also it's bad to sleep on your left side, this is because a lot of your organs begin to put pressure on the heart and stomach which makes it harder to fall asleep due to uncomfortable feelings. As well as, if you try it out, it becomes a bit harder to breath when compared to say, laying on your back or right side.
Well, I didn't know the bit about sleeping on one's left side! Not that I do, I sleep on the right side also. In fact, I've pretty much only had success with SP when sleeping/relaxing on the right side, or at least with my head facing to the right. I've never had SP facing left or in a rigid supine position. I dunno about others, though.
No surprise here, another failure!
I woke up at 3:20 A.M.
Went to the bathroom, went to drink some water and started to read some articles.
I was reading http://www.geocities.com/lucidmetro/course....htm#WEEK%20ONE and decided to try out STAGE 1
After ninety minutes I go to my room. 4:50 A.M. I felt extremely sleepy, nothing could stop me now right?
I walked to the side of my bed.
"I am going to bed for the purpose of dreaming. I know that I do dream so I will fully,
consciously, willingly dream with full knowing that this is my desire, my intent, my will to do
so. I will be as I am now here in Waking Physical Reality with my full mental abilities needed to
observe, record this experience and remember as clearly as I do now, but this time, I will be
as I am here, but in the dreamstate."
*Goes to switch the light off*
*Switch falls off the lamp*
"@#$%&!!!!!"
So much for calmness.
I go to bed, put on the binaural beats cd with the sexy female voice, and for the next hour attempt to fall asleep and can't.
After that I gave up and just tried to go asleep normally. (I'm lying, I turned to my right and slept that way to see if it would help, it did help somewhat, but never got to sleep)
After THAT I REALLY forgot about it and just went to go asleep. Too bad there was only ten minutes left before I had to wake up and go to school.
I'm writing this on my lunch break, so I have to goes, good bye.
Yeah
So flashlight = bad?
Apparantley, there's a way to control your SP experience by using the " Roll-out " technique. Which involves literally rolling out of your paralysed body. I've tried this once or twice, failing both times. Anyone else have more information on this?
At this point I'm just trying to get into SP so I can get directely into a lucide dream ._.
Not a good idea. Always focus on the dream. Don't make my mistake of focusing on getting SP... I end up staying up for hours, stuck on the cusp of SP (though I'm pretty sure it's only my own suggestion that I can't move, and not really SP).
Or... How 'bout going for a DILD?
