Well, a lot of people have stated that they're having problems with saliva in their mouths. I've actually learned more about inducing SP than LDs sinces I've joined DV, and I had rarely experienced it in my life before.

From my experience, swallowing will NOT stop SP from occurring, as long as it's just a gentle, natural swallow. Don't swallow like you're wolfing down a triple-cheeseburger, and you should be fine. SP is induced by being two things: EXTREMELY relaxed to the point where you stop caring about what your body is sensing, and "entering REM directly from consciousness. The "entering REM directly" part is key, because if one were to just enter NREM sleep, there would be no SP. That's also why SP is accompanied so often by "visions" and such."

*EDIT* : Ok, I read some info on another post, and I was wrong probably! It appears one CAN enter SP without being in REM sleep. I always thought SP was ONLY during REM, so I just assumed that one could only enter SP while IN REM. Could somebody give a definite answer on this?

I don't know how to remove the fright from SP; it's just shocking at first, and I think for most people, entering SP multiple times is the only way to get "used" to it. How I used to do it was to visualize I was just listening to trippy rave-type music on my headphones. It seemed to help a little.

I for one have always had problems breathing when I enter SP. I remember when I was in high school, I used to fall asleep with my arms crossed over my desk and my head resting on top of them. I almost suffocated myself once when I actually entered SP! When I got SP in bed, I almost always was resting on my side; again, my mouth kind of was obstructed by the pillow, so it was hard to breathe. If I could only get SP with breathing room!...

Oh yeah: With MILD, you don't have to go to sleep consciously, you just gotta have a dream you recently had as preferably your last thought before losing consciousness.
