So basically, I'm new at this. I've been reading hardcore on ludic dreaming. Read the wikibook, an eBook, and I have the LD sound files where someone is talking, guiding you through techniques.

Frist I tried listening to the sound files a few nights in a row. Did nothing.

Then I continually read all the WILD techniques I could find on the web. I continually read them a few times throughout the day. So, a few nights ago, I tried to do a WILD. Here's what happened:

Basically, I counted my breaths in and out... so: in - 1, out - 2, in - 3, out - 4; all the way up to about 100. The entire time I didn't move an inch. Then SP sort of kicked in. I felt a warm numbing sensation, then my heart started to beat extremely fast. I got excited and I could tell my mind slowly pulled out of it and I could feel my body again.

I tried this 2 nights after that as well. Same exact results. The latest time, however, I stayed in SP a little longer, but I also counted much higher, restarting my count to 100 twice.

How can I calm myself down?

How about trying some meditation and relaxation techniques throughout the day? Or doing something relaxing before bed, like drinking a glass of warm milk or caffine free tea? Make sure and get excercize, too, as it will make you more tired at the end of the day, and it will be easier for you to relax. But, it's really a matter of mentality. Tell yourself repeatedly that it's no biggie, and eventually, you'll get calmer. Welcome to the forum, BTW.

      Thanks.

I've started yoga, Bikram Yoga... and during it a few times I focused on my own eyes in the mirror and felt this sort of dream-like awareness. I knew I was in the physical world and awake, but the awareness of myself seemed sort of like an OBE. It was interesting.

Anyway, off to bed, thanks for the advice!

I've never managed a WILD - rock hard But I have managed a FILD - check it out
It's like the concept of the WILD but without the WILD LOL No Stress Straight in
I did it once - it's the only technique that has ever given me an LD!

      Good Luck,

Hey man I am new to this also and had a very similar experience. I woke up one night in the middle of my sleep cycle and realized I was completely in SP. I tried falling back to sleep and within a minute noticed the vibrations starting to kick in and at this point I got really excited and after about 20 seconds it stopped and I lost everything including the SP. Sucks, and I havent woken up again in SP since, and still have yet to have my first LD. What im trying to do is start with getting a DILD since it seems to be the simplest method. Problem is im always so passive in my dreams and never notice any dream signs ive made for myself or remember to do reality checks even though I constantly do them while conscious. But good luck to you, and hopefully we can overcome this problem.

I have been considering meditation as well but I don't know where to start really, I suppose the breathing technique? I read buddhist books but I haven't gotten around to meditating yet, keep putting it off.

This happens to me everynight, but i get closer and closer. I can do it the same whether I do a WBTB or not. I suppose I should just keep practicing it.

And yeah, good luck to you. Keep me updated on whether or not you're successful.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. While I was doing this before my heart started beating really fast and my breathing became shallow, I scratched my face in my head, and I felt it, but didn't see anything... I really didn't move an inch physically though. Then I got excited and regressed. I can calm myself down, try again, and I continually get to the same point. Last night was the furthest I've gone though.
