Just recently found this site and thought I'd post my experiences with lucid dreaming and ask if they are typical or if anybody else has run into anything similar.

First experience with LD was around 5 years ago, when I became Lucid in a dream and started flying. I had to concentrate really hard and could "float" then fly, as if a string was pulling me by the chest -- that was interesting, I told a couple friends about it, and then went into a couple year period where I didn't remember any dreams. Occasionally over the few year period, I would remember a dream or have a lucid dream.

So recently (2 months ago), I started having lucid dreams again. In my first experiences, I tended to become lucid, walk around, and then eventually have sex . The sex would feel very realistic. I've never practiced any reality check methods, but I've always been aware of whether I was in a dream or not. Only once have I encountered an experience that's usually described here (can't concentrate, end up concentrating on the environment, sex loses purpose) -- it's usually very vivid and with any person I choose to summon.

Here comes the interesting stuff. Recently, things started getting much more advanced. I started lucid dreaming regularly and almost on command. I was aware that I was in complete control of the dream, and almost with "god like" amusement, I would wake myself up, open my eyes, turn around, close my eyes and instantly go back into the dream. Since I had a couple interesting lucid dreams, one night I was quite keen on lucid dreaming, so I concentrated on an environment, which slowly became brighter and more vivid until (without pause) I was lucid dreaming. Other times, I would concentrate on an environment or the feeling of being asleep and would have a "blip" where I didn't remember what happened, and then I would be in a lucid dream -- this seems more consistent with sleep cycles (don't remember non-REM), but I'm not quite sure how to explain the 100% of memory I have from awake to dreaming the one time.

Recently I've almost been lucid dreaming on command (90% of the times I try and a couple times a week when I don't), and I've done things like summoning people in front of me (one person would just morph into the desired person if I concentrated), carrying out entire science fiction story lines where I was the main character saving the world and traveling back in time -- which was most interesting. When traveling back in time, I carried out a scene (I was at a bar, walked towards the bar, talked to a girl, failed) with somebody at my side, and then thought to myself (with amusement at my "godlike" powers) that since it's my dream, I could go back in time if I pleased. While my "dream friend" protested vividly, I sat there, concentrated very hard, and the entire room slowly faded to black, and then *poof*, I was instantly at the beginning of the scene, and it played out exactly the same (people walking the same way, turning, looking the same direction, saying the same thing) except I moved differently -- quite amusing . I tried it a 3rd time and it didn't work (people moved differently).

Last interesting point to mention: I'm somehow inherently aware of when I'm dreaming and when I'm awake. I was so amused early on that I had complete control over my sleep that I woke myself up, rolled around, closed my eyes and put myself back in the dream -- somehow, I pull a "sleep trigger" that instantly wakes me up. Most recently in a dream, I went to sleep, and then used the same reflex that usually wakes me up to wake out of that sleep, and was fully expecting to end the lucid dream "by accident", but instead just woke up in the dream -- quite strange, and I'll be sure to explore this more. I think part of the ability to differentiate dreaming from non-dreaming comes from around age 6, when I used to have very vivid semi-lucid dreams of going to the bathroom to take a leak, and would find out I was dreaming when I felt a wet sensation -- I spent a significant amount of time learning to distinguish the dream from reality as initially, they appeared the same.

So it looks like after reading some stuff on the boards that I've managed to stumble upon MILD/WILD techniques and become decently proficient at them, and am able to easily know when I am dreaming and when I'm not. Sorry for the long post! Anybody find any of this similar or mildly interesting?

      Hey, welcome to DV!

Man, you have no idea how many people here would kill to have all your LDing skills. Seriously, you're lucky to have been able to pick it up by yourself at such a young age.

As for me finding this similar, I can't say that I can since I didn't learn to LD until I found this site. I do find it interesting, however, that someone can teach themselves all that control.

Anywho, hope to see ya more around the forums!

I think I'd sell my whole family to have that kind of inherent ability, my friend. That is absolutely and profoundly amazing! To be able to Lucid dream at will, like that...

      Wow. Just Wow.

Wow, I had no idea. I just recently started investigating LD on the internet when someone else showed me an eBook. Quite crazy that I kind of stumbled upon this. It's also probably a good thing that I have a decently exciting life, otherwise it might be tempting to sleep more .
