Thumbs down

Hi there everybody! I'm new to the forum and this is my HAY GUYS! introduction post.

I've been doing some research on lucid dreaming lately and got really interested in it; just the fact that you can dream of stuff you'd never think about in real life was enough to win me over. So I made a little dreamdiary and as of yet I'm having a blast - even if the lucid thing never works out I'll still have some pretty funky stories to work with.

Woah, too fast. I'm studying graphic design/illustrating and I'm always welcoming inspiration and ideas that actually mean something to me, after having spent years doing superficial work, so to speak. Everybody has his or her own view on things, and I just want to get to know mine as good as I can. Hence the interest in writing dreamjournals. Apart from that; reading about the stuff other people experience in dreams is just way fun.

I'd like to SEIZE the oppertunity to ask a little question too, regarding dreamjournals. I've read on this site somewhere that just writing down your last dream in the morning "isn't going to cut it". The thing is just that when I write down a dream I usually write down two full pages because I don't want to miss any of the details - making it nearly impossible to do that at 2 in the morning - and apart from that I know I can't go to sleep and wake up 3 times and still be able to get out of bed in the morning. My guy says I'll be fine as I've already got some stories that I can take apart word by word to find similarities but the THAT! JUST! WON'T! CUT! IT! line still made me blue.

So hey there's no question in that so I'll make it up right now: is only writing down your last dream enough to start finding similarities and such or do I really have to learn to get up way early? And if so, what's the best way to do this? Setting my alarm clock probably won't work, I had to get up at 6 a while ago and even though it woke me up at first I started to ignore it after a few weeks, or even turning it off without realising it. Alarm clocks are evil.

Uh yeah text! Glad to be here and I'll get myself a nifty ava and all that as soon as possible. That concludes my introduction!

Welcome on board!

Don't worry about the just won't cut it remark. There is benefit to writing down anything! I think maybe you can write down one dream in full detail and maybe just make a few notes about the others. Kind of an outline you can come back to later. You'd be surprised how just a few written lines can bring a dream back to your rememberance, even after months of years.

Good luck and be sure to jump right in and participate!
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

Nice intro Geoffrey
WELCOME
:!:

Writing down as much as you can helps.
But if you are writing a dream down in great detail this may also help.
Try both and see what works better for you. There are many variables because we are all different.
Look forward to seeing to back, with a nifty avatar.

If I remember an earlier dream then I think I probably won't be able to write down more than a few notes anyway. In the weekend I'll try setting the clock to around 2-ish at night, to see what happens - I know that that's the time that really qualifies as ok. I'm like really really tired and asleep now -time for me. Until then I'll just continue writing down every little detail!

And yeah, I'll be sure to make my own journal thread at one time or another. It'll be wild!

Hey! I just find that writing down dreams in the middle of the night helps me remember them better. If I wait until morning, I might forget the whole thing, and that is just frustrating. Welcome to the forum and Carpe Somnium, Seize the Dream!

Hay is for horses. Yes, I am a curmudgeonly jerkface but the opportunity was to perfect to pass up; you'll have to forgive my weakness for quips.

I used to write my dreams out in exhausting detail as well, until the side effect from lack of sleep revealed itself to me. Falling asleep during ones conversations is not all together pleasant...

Now I simply highlight the major parts and any clear dream signs. Reading it in the morning I can recall most of the details.

Oh, yes, welcome...
