Hello all! I'm new here and I have a question. I've always been excellent at dream recall (can remember about 3 a night), and I remember having quite a few lucid dreams before as well. What I'm really wondering about is choosing your dream without wanting control in it.

I've had a dream that I want to return to, what is a good way to go about doing it? I've been able to return to a dream and almost continue where I've left off before, but I want a more active approach instead of just happening to do it. Any tips?

      Thank you!

      Autosuggestion?

Make a script in your head what you want to happen and visualize it when falling asleep. At the end 'i will dream this dream' or something like that and repeat.

Doesent guarantee lucidness or control/non-controll. Doesent even guarantee that youll have the dream you wanter.. It just raises your chances!

      Good luck!

Hi, . Off the top of my head the best thing I can think of is VILD (visually incubated lucid dreaming), and I have seen more techniques on the forum also. What I would reccommend doing is checking out the Tutorials Section or doing a forum search if that doesn't work or you need a different technique. I have, from time to time, seen threads on how to do exactly that, so you're sure to find more. Happy Dreaming, and good luck

edit: what MoD said is a pretty good idea (if I remember correctly, that is the gist of VILD)

You're talking about Dream Incubation. The guts of what you need to do, is to try to think of the topic you want to dream about throughout the day - preoccupy yourself with it, as you would if you were doing reality checks. Read about it before you go to bed, or do another associated activity. For instance, I tend to get "Arabian Nights" themed dreams when I read the Nights before be or play Prince of Persia (a sort of arabian nights themed videogame).

Think about it before you go to sleep, combine it with some mnemonic devices, "I will dream about" etc. Try tpo make it the last thing you think about before you go to sleep.

Kay, well my suggestion isn't really scientific or anything, and I got it from a sleepover so.....yeah, who knows if it's true!

What you do is, get a glass of water, right before bed. And right before you drink it, say the thing you want to dream about five times. Then drink the water, and go to bed. Course, this doesn't work for complicated dreams or anything, but it's pretty fun to try.

The one time I did this, it actually worked! Haha.

So if you ever get bored with the traditional methods you might just fall back on this.
