Hey Mysticmoo, welcome to the forums, well i'll try and make this as detailed as possible so you can get right into it. A lucid dream is a dream in which you become consciouslly aware that you are dreaming without waking up. Once becoming lucid (lucid meaning mentally clear) you can begin to control your surroundings, wish things into existence, think of it as a massive endless playground in which you can do absolutely anything, you can fly, you can have any kind of sex, you can even wish a beautiful scenery into existence and take a walk round it, the great thing about it is that it is as real and vivid as real life, maybe even more real in some cases, but when i say anything i mean anything, time travel, meeting a movie star, finding you purpose, you can even speak to you subconscious i have heard. Well if the idea of god-like powers doesn't intrigue you then i'm sure you can find something else you would like to do, maybe re-live a past memory. I hope that made things clear about what a lucid dream is and what you can do in them.
Now, if you want to start lucid dreaming you need to start with the basic steps, lucid dreaming may come easy to you, it may come hard but its different for everyone, i've been trying for 5-6 months and not even had my 4th, but don't let that put you off, i've seen people have 10 in their first month, but one thing you will require is patience, you can't allow yourself to get stressed when you don't suceed otherwise that will lower the chances, it takes time if it doesn't come to you easy, all i suggest for now is to start a dream journal, a dream journal can be a notepad of diary of your dreams, when you go to bed at night put out the intention to remember your dreams, that usually does it and then in the morning write down the dreams you remembered, don't worry about categorising them just write down any details, as soon as you get up becaue you will most likely forget during the course of the day, start there, do it until you can remember a good amount of dreams each night, don't be let down if you don't remember 3 every night, its not a failure, you probably just have something on your mind, continue and then after you start remembering some more dreams you can start with some induction techniques so you can start having lucid dreams, hope all of that helped, take a look around, look in the tutorials, this is a friendly community, lots of people i'm sure will help you out if you get stuck with anything, good luck!
