      what am I doing wrong?

      Hey to everyone,
I guess you might call me a n00b to lucid dreaming. But anyway these past few nights ive been trying everything, repeating to myself as im falling asleep i will wake up after REM cycle, and it worked once, but nothing was on my mind when I woke up. then i set my alarm clock for every 90 minutes last night, I woke up 3 times, but nothing was on my mind i didnt even know if I was dreaming. I just woke up, looked at my dream journal and didnt know what to write because I didnt know what I was dreaming about. Please tell me what im doing wrong, if im waking up during NREM stages or what. Thanks

personally if I wake up to my alarm, unless I had a very vivid dream, the alarm will tend to startle me and ruin any recall I would have had. Also, are you just getting right up? because I find it helps to go over the dream a couple times in your head while you lay there with your eyes closed (just be careful not to fall back to sleep, which I have done several times). Also, try just writing down any sort of feelings you have when you wake up if you don't really have any dreams to write down.

      First of all, dont rush.

Dont move much, just turn off the alarm and think about your recent

experiences. Lie comfortably and think for about 3-5 minutes.

Dont try to recall "dreams", as your mind has a hazy idea of

what dream is (at least untill you develop good recall)...

try to think back. Noticing anything unusual. People, places, what you've

      done.

There's a good chance you'll stumble on something, and your mind will

instantly realize it's a dream. It may be anything. If you recall any scene,

try to focus on it, think forwards/backwards. Relive it. This may bring

      back rest of the dream...

If you recalled some parts, write them down, go to the bathroom, go back

to bed and think about your dream again. Most likely you will recall more

      details later...

Never think you'll be able to recall a dream in the morning. Write it down, regardless of how sleepy you are...

I don't know if this was clarified, but the first REM cycle begins about 4 or 5 hours into sleep...then in 90 minute cycles.

As Ev said: Just lay there...RELAX, try and recall anything, even FEELINGS.

Yep that's very true, always write something down that instant cause you won't remember it later on. It's quite frustrating.

Don't rush like Ev said. If you been only trying for a few days it's nothing to be worried about that you haven't gotten expected results yet. Give it a few weeks at least. Just be patient.

Welcome to the forums by the way!
