Question Please Help in Dream Recall

Hey guys, I've "known" (not experienced) lucid dreaming since about a week, but the problem is that I have a (severely) poor Dream Recall. That method of setting alarm and waking up in the middle of the night isn't for me (I am a very deep sleeper).

So I've tried to repeat the phrase "I will remember my dreams", before going to sleep; but I cant keep on, as other thoughts distract me.

So I am just asking, is there any other (easy) method or any tips and tricks to help me in dream recall?

Nope - nothing easy. It is a discipline, and is harder for some than others. Setting that "easy" qualifier aside, there is much you can do.

You might try getting more rest and eating a diet rich in B vitamins, particularly B6.

If you aren't keeping a dream journal and recording everything you CAN remember first thing in the morning, that is a powerful tool you should seriously consider. It helps you "relive" the dreams. I often don't recall details until I start writing, which may begin as just a tiny fragment.

yes, unfortunately, dream recall is a bitch to get going... but once you start writing in your dream journal ANYTHING at all you remember from your dreams, it shouldnt be 2 weeks before you start remembering most of 2 or more dreams a night, at least. I'm starting the process to get back into LDing to now that schools out, so i feel your pain

What really messes up my recall is being jarred awake by an alarm or some other sound and /or if I immediately change position or start thinking about my day once I wake up.

Try telling your subconscioius to wake you up after each dream or to wake you up about 15 minutes before your alarm goes off (I know it sounds stupid but you'd be surprised how accomodating your subconscious can be).

Once you wake up.. do not move! Think about the dream that you just had.. If nothing comes to mind.. try to remember if there was a specific person, place, thing, food or emotion in the dream. Once you come up with even a tidbit of the dream.. try to work your way backward.. how did you get there.. who was with you, etc.

      And welcome to Dream Views!

      Thanks

Thanks to all of you. But the problem is that I cant remember "anything" about my dream when I wake up.

Well I guess I'll just keep reminding my subconsious to wake up after a dream and remember it. And yeah, I'll also try to take vitamin B; but can you tell me how does vitamin B help in dream recall?

well umm, i cant help you about that "anything" part.
But yeah, i had trouble with my dream recalls, and in just three nights using my Dream Diary (HA you heard me!) i've started to remember my dreams, even some of the details, and this morning i actually remembered a feeling i felt in a dream!

You should definitely have a shot at Dream Diaries / Journals.

      Mugwort

Hey, I am new as well, and I was browsing through and found your question. What really works for me is Mugwort. I have been taking it on and off now for about a year, and Ive noticed a significant difference. It increases my lucidity during dreams and also helps me remember them. For me, Mugwort is an incredible help in lucid dreaming. From what I have read, its not harmful, and I actually get it locally from an herbalist in my town. I actually just ordered 3 ounces more because I am out and at College (not at home). I strongly suggest looking into it, although it may have different effects for different people.

It's just willpower, if you really believe you can achieve it, and really try as hard as you can. You will be able to wake up and remember those dreams. It may be hard but you can do it.

      Goodluck.

I just found this on Wikipedia, "Mugwort contains thujone, which is toxic."

So I suggest you better ask a doctor about it.

But I also found this: The plant contains ethereal oils (such as cineole, or wormwood oil, and thujone), flavonoids, triterpenes, and coumarin derivatives. Chewing some leaves will kill the fatigue and stimulate the nervous system.

      mugwort

Yeah, there are sources that say it is toxic. But I have also read that it is pretty harmless when taken in "low" doses, whatever that means. Its hard to really know what it does or how it affects the body. Most places I have read including herbal medicine books I haven't heard about it being toxic. Oh well.

Well, considering the theory that you perform common habits in dreams, which is the way MILD works, maybe if you tried to remember everything that happens and pay CLOSE attention to details in your life before you go back to sleep, maybe you'll do so in your dream, therefore waking up with better dream recall.

And contemplating these odd things that happen in dreams and thinking how odd they are may help too. Tell yourself to keep a look out for these things, and take note of them, and of course if you're aiming at a MILD you should do a reality check each time these happen, or anything else odd.

Just a theory, but I'm gonna try it out tonight!
