      problems having dreams

i rarely even have dreams. most of the time i just fall asleep, wait for about 1.5 seconds in darkness and then i open my eyes and the sun is up. so are there any breathing techniques i can use that could increase my chances of just having a dream. should i be sleeping at a certain time or thinking of something just before sleep?
      thanks for your help

Well I'm a Science Man myself, so sometimes, just sometimes, I try to explain Paradoxes to myself.

Other times, I keep thinking about things that I don't understand.

Since you don't understand it, you make up things in your head, and this is MY key to going to sleep. Imagination.

I think you just have to fall asleep thinking (but not concentrating) about something you really find interesting.

Well, I certainly know how you feel, but I promise you do dream every night, provided you sleep more than three hours! Every 90min of sleep one goes into REM sleep, and consequently dreams. (I find the first REM period is so short that the dream is either really bland or short; maybe that's different for others, though.) Thinking before you fall asleep that you want to remember your dreams will help; really believe that you'll remember when you wake up. Also, keeping a steady sleep schedule REALLY helps as well; i.e. going to sleep only when tired and waking at the same time every day.

One thing that could be preventing you from recalling your dreams is not waking up after your REM periods, which is when you dream. (I think you knew that though! ) A dream from one REM period will be erased if another dream occurs, so for the most part you must wake directly from a dream if you want to recall it. The only exceptions are people with insanely good natural recall, or people who have trained their recall well. Have you read any of the recall tutorials on DreamViews? They help much. For instance, WBTB is a highly successful method. Try setting your alarm a few hours before your normal wake up time and see if you remember anything. They key is getting yourself to wake up directly from REM.

One thing: Personally, I don't remember dreams very well after my first awakening, even if I slept 6-8 hours! What I DO find is that once I wake up and fall back asleep again, I usually can recall a dream after any subsequent awakenings. Good luck!

Your problem is most likely not that you don't dream (everyone does) but that you don't recall your dreams. A website that I found to be helpful was www.consciousdreaming.com. It has a lot of good tips for improving dream recall. Good luck!

Haha, recently I've been excited before I go to bed too. Several people already answered this but the truth is you do dream, it's just you don't remember them. I personally haven't had a problem with dream recall but have heard vitamin B6 and melatonin might help. Also, try autosuggestion. That usually works for many people with this problem.
