      Am I forgetting something?

Hi everyone. I have been trying to WILD for 8 days, still not working.

OK, I know that the way I chose is the hardest, but what makes me feel bad that I'm not able to reach paralysis, I don't see anything, hear anything, I feel no needles. I spend everyday 2 hours breathing and counting and trying to focus on any patterns can come to my head, but all I see is pure dark black.

From what I read of the tutorials, there will be one path to success, and even if at the end you fail, at least you would by then have passed one or two steps but failed in the final step. It's like in a race where you either win or be last or your car crashes. But for me, it looks that my car is not starting its engine in the first place, or maybe worse, like I don't have a car !

I just feel that I can do it.

      What is wrong?

      Firstly welcome,

Secondly, you've been trying for only 8 days, give it little bit longer. Lucid dreaming is a skill that you need to practice no matter what technique you use. Just be patient and stay positive and you'll eventually get there.

WILDing can be pretty difficult, i suggest you keep at it to see if theres any improvements and if you find its not working for you just move onto something else, be patient, we don't always get it the first few times.

How long do you sleep before getting out of the bed? And how long is your WBTB?

Everyday I wake up at 10 am, go to work at 11, stay there till 11 pm, then reach home at 11:30pm, after that I sleep 12 to 5 am, I then stay up for 30 min (actually I tried 10 min, 30 min, 1 hour ), then at 5:30 I put on my ear-plugs and eye-mask and begin, only to find myself at 7:00 or 7:30 just exactly with the same state at which I began. ( I mean exactly; no strange feelings, no sounds, no images, just black black black).

Believe me, I feel I'm missing something, because it's the same feeling for the whole one a half hour trying to WILD. To be more accurate, 2 or 3 times I feel that the pupils of my eyes suddenly change focus (like when you shut them not so tight), and they shake slightly for 3 seconds.

This is strange, before knowing about LD, I used to have random thoughts before sleeping (like hyp. thoughts), but when I want to WILD I get nothing.

And sometimes I get too nervous before WILDing, and sometimes the 5 hours are disturbed by short awakenings in between (because I feel very anxious about LD).

And to tell the truth, I always have this feeling that real life is 20 percent like a dream. And usually I can recall 15 percent of dream content.

I have a weak memory overall, I find it very difficult sometimes to recall certain names and numbers and pieces of information, but anyway between me and myself I feel extremely confident I can do LD very easily, it's just that I feel I'm not using the correct method.

I know it's not easy to succeed in the first few trials, but to have nothing during all the attempts is a little bit strange.

Please can anybody point out what I'm forgeting to do?
Is it that some persons cannot have paralysis?
Or is it because I'm very awake?

      Yours.

Well by the looks of things your putting too much pressure on yourself to become lucid, you are desperate for the WILD to work and this added pressure has the opposite effect and stops you, just take things slowly and don't let things worry you, even if its the tiniest of improvements, like you don't feel as nervous, thats an accomplishment. Hey, i tried WILDing for 2 weeks straight and got nothing except one night in which i became numb, but i came out of it easily, DILDs seem to be the only thing for me, just don't put pressure on yourself because it will have the exact opposite effect in which you desire. Good luck my friend and keep at it, just take things slowly and in moderation, maybe take a break for a couple of nights, just go to bed as you normally would. This is known to sometimes trigger lucid dreams by taking pressure off yourself.

      LOL

You work a 12 hour day and you've been reducing your amount of sleep? No way is that gonna work. When you're tired or stressed your ability to WILD is severely damaged and in your case it doesn't surprise me at all that you've lost it completely. Hell, after starting a 5 hour a day job I noticed a massive decrease in my ability to lucid dream.

If I were you and I really wanted to WILD I would CLEAR my Saturday timetable, have a totally relaxed day reading books and watching movies (a half hour run in the middle of the day is good aswell just so you don't have difficulty sleeping) then try that night.

Also, that aside, I can't see any mention anywhere that you've tried lucid dreaming. I know some people have had success with starting off with WILDs but I think those people are just gifted. I tried to start with WILD myself. I experienced some of the symptoms but ultimately was never able to break into the dream even though i tried for 1.5 months, and that was last year when my life was 100% stress free.

graphicsgriffin, you state, "I sleep 12 to 5 am, I then stay up for 30 min (actually I tried 10 min, 30 min, 1 hour )".

I think maybe you're simply sleeping too long. If I slept for 5 hours and then tried to fall back asleep, I'd probably lay there for hours as well.

You stated in your PM that you've read my tutorial, if so, then you will see that I get up after 3 or 4 hours of sleep and stay up for no longer than it takes for me to go to the bathroom.

I would recommend that you try sleeping for only 3 hours and see if that makes a difference.

I also think you're putting too much pressure on yourself.. I only try to WILD on the weekends.

Plus like every skill, unless you're a natural, it will take time, practice and patience to learn how to lucid dream.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

      Thanks everyone for posting.

I agree that I'm very excited and desperate to have a WILD, this makes me nervous when attempting to.

But anyway, this night something happened:

I tried to sleep less today like you mentioned Clairity, at 12:30 I slept (actually I also tried to practice between 12:00 and 12:30), then I woke up at 4:30, then I slept at 5:00 trying to begin the procedures. But tonight I told myself (like all of you asked me) to not put too much pressure on the matter, and that I will try, If succeeded that's my goal, if not I would sleep and try later some other day.

I began to relax myself, but without any counting, only regular slow breathing, nothing happened. It looks anyway that I slept ( because I wasn't doing anything to keep myself awake), but then (I think after some minutes only) I woke up to find myself in a strange feeling, I was heavier than usual, and I felt like shaking rapidly ( exactly the same feeling when riding rollercoaster and going down suddenly very fast - if you saw ThePolar Express you would know exactly what I felt), faint but colored random shapes began to come before my eyes ( like Piccaso's works!) I told myself " this is the time, you have to stay awake or you'll lose the chance to WILD". I started breathing and counting, but only to find that everything only began to cool down, then I returned to regular state.

Was that paralysis, or the so called "shift", or was it only nothing important?

Am I closer to achieve lucidity?

Yes, that sinking feeling was definately what I call the "shift".. and yes, I'd say you were in SP and were close to achieving lucidity! Congratulations!!

Rather than repost parts of my technique here and what should be done when you feel the "shift".. please click on my "technique" link found in my signature below. You may wish to not only read my technique but also some of the postings associated with it for information/inspiration.
