What Do You Think of This Quote?

I prefer to let my dreams come as they may. I find that, for me, dreams can symbolically help to make sense of daytime issues. So I don't really want to try to control them. IMHO it would be like a student going to class and telling the teacher what to teach. How much could one learn if one did that?

I agree. I want to lucid dream, but I'm not interested in dream control, apart from minimal control such as control of my own movements, and my own speech.

Being lucid doesn't mean that you can't "go with the flow" of the dream. It probably changes the content so it really might not be the same. But you should know that there are people who have LDs naturally. All I learn from my normal dreams are certain things from the day/week before, some are great and epic, others express my worries. I haven't really learned anything new, but I don't say it doesn't happen.

I think, in most situations, explaining something with a metaphor is very misleading. No two things are alike, and when you do these comparisons, you oversimplify. For this case, last time I checked, my brain is in control of my dreams and my lucid dreams. They aren't seperate entities.

But if I had to use a metaphor ... I guess I would go with,"Lucid dreaming is like falling off a cliff and deciding to do a canonball; more control, same conclusion.

My room mate had the same view on lucid dreaming. He thought it was wrong that I was messing with things that my mind was probably trying to work out on it's own.

Truth is, most dreams are non lucid. My last dream journal, I had over 800 dreams logged and only 16% of those were lucids. My mind had plenty of time to sift through stuff naturally. My lucid dreams were few and far between and barely made a dent in the normal 'sorting out stuff' mode, if that is indeed what dreams are for.

You have many dreams a night. I'm betting one or two lucids a night wouldn't drastically alter any sorting the mind had to do.

That's well and good, but not everybody is into the symbolism behind dreams.

Even if you do, the average person who thinks it'd be cool to fly doesn't give two shits about the meaning behind the dream, and wouldn't be paying attention anyway.

Personally I think that philosophy is flawed. You sign up for a class, a class has a rigid structure and a teacher who'll actually tell you what you need to know to pass the test. Dreaming isn't anywhere near as straight forward. It is subjective and still filled with things that we don't understand.
As Vex Kitten said, most dreams aren't lucid anyway. There's still plenty of time for you to get your dose of symbolism and learnings. :p

Even if dreaming was like a class, you almost always get more points for innovation and improvisation. At least in the fun ones.

It's cool having dreams even if we don't control it. But lets be honest, we (at least I) remember our dreams daily. I don't study them and see what they are trying to tell me all day, so it is cool being able to control my dreams whenever I can, I mean come on, who wouldn't want to control their dreams? It is so fun
