      The First Night's Over, and...

I can't read my Dream Journal.

Hello all. I found this website by chance last night and looked around. The idea of Lucid Dreaming seemed very interesting and worthwhile, so I decided to start at the generally-decided 'First Step': Improve Dream Recall. I put a pad of paper next to my bed and went to sleep telling myself that "I will remember my dreams". I woke up several times last night, a dream still fresh in my head, and wrote what I thought was a good summary on my pad. However, when I got up and looked at it, it was all scribbles. I can make out the occasional word here or there, and (fortunately) I remember the gist of the first dream, but other than that, all I know is that I had and (at the time) remembered about 3 dreams, which, admittedly, is three more than usual. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve my Dream Journal?

Heheh, that happens to me all the time. I'm too lazy to find a light, so I just try to write without seeing, and end up getting something that's completely illegible in the morning.

It's an easily solved problem, though. Just buy a small flashlight and keep it by your bed with your journal.

Also, welcome to the forums and good luck on your path to lucidity!

      Welcome to the forum

Yeah, that can be a problem :p Have a torch by the bed or even a lamp, also you could try one of those voice recorders and record what you say. Ofcourse the only problem is, if you're inclear while talking in the middle of the night.

      Goodluck.

Welcome, I guess with practice you could learn to write in the dark. At least you managed to write something down, I normally dream that I write in my DJ and don't realise I haven't realy written anything until days later.

      Hey there, welcome.

That is an annoying problem, quite a few people have it. What I can advise is either try to be more alert and turn on a light when writing it down, or use a voice recorder of sorts.

LOL! Let's hope he's English and understands what you mean - we don't want him burning down his room!

There's a neat pen I found a while back which is great for journaling. Not sure where you can get them, but you could search online.
