      Early WILDs?

Is it possible to WILD without waking up 5-6 hours after your sleep. Forexample right before you go to bed or a nap, because I have had sp and but am not too sure about having an ld without being in the REM period. (Yes I know it's called Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming which contradict my question)

It is possible, but not likely. The first 3-4.5 hrs of sleep are low level dreamless sleep, so that makes it harder. The nap is hard because you aren't as tired as you should be and I normally don't dream during naps.

Though is is possible/more likely if you wake up 3-4 hrs after going to sleep, because you aren't as awake as 6 hrs sleep.
Remember from where you came, and stay true to your ideals. There is no place for those who have lost their souls.

I've tried it many times, I've never managed it at that time, but it's definitely possible. The dream you would be having though would likely be shorter, and of less quality. It's alot tougher to do a WILD like this though, I find I'm far too physically active just before bed that I can't hold off the excitement of going through the vibrations and stuff, but I don't know, thats just me

I remember a very long time ago that I used to get WILD-like sensations before getting to sleep and not actually trying for it by waking up after 5-6 hours of sleep. It felt like I was around people but I could usually only see a small silhouette of them or nothing at all. After I experience that for a few seconds I would usually hear a loud sound or have the feeling of falling. As soon as I would hear the loud sound or fall until I hit the ground I would wake up with my heart racing. At that time I had no idea that what I was experiencing was close to WILD and I didn't even know about LD'ing. Too bad this doesn't happen to me anymore because it would probably help me out a lot in WILD'ing.
      LD Counter ( as of 07.29.07) = 1

I actually experimented with this about a week ago even though I still haven't developed consistent dream recall. I actually managed it halfway; my whole body got that sensation you get when your feet fall asleep, but not full on paralysis. I tried to sit up out of my sleeping body too soon , but my head felt twice as heavy and my whole body was really stiff for a half hour when I got up to get a drink.

It also works with afternoon naps, but can anyone tell me why?

Yes, it is possible. And yes, it's much less likely to occur that way though. The exception might be afternoon naps but, even then, it's not as likely or easy to do.

Alright, you're getting WILD confused with WBTB. When you wake up after so many hours then go back to sleep (after being up for a little while), the waking up part is called WBTB (Wake Back To Bed). WILD is considered "wake-induced" because of the fact that you can enter an LD directly from the waking state, as opposed to suddenly realizing you are dreaming part of the way into a dream. In other words, with WILD, you go from being awake to entering a dream already knowing you are dreaming.

WBTB reinforces the intention to recognise a dream for what it is. WBTB is not necessarily accompanied by a WILD attempt and not all WBTB + WILD combos result in a WILD. Sometimes it may result in a DILD or nothing at all.

What you're talking about is "HI" (hypnagogic imagery), a dream-like state, or reverie, but not a "true" dream.

Because it's contrary to your standard sleep pattern, you're often more likely to enter a REM period much more quickly than you otherwise would.
