      Yeee Haaaa!!!

About two hours ago I woke up from my first LD. It was more successful than I could have hoped for a first time LD.

      A little background:

I found this forum about two or three weeks ago and immediately read the tutorials. My biggest fear was my lack of recall. I was what I initially thought was an infrequent dreamer. Maybe two dreams a week. I balked at the dream journal idea but with all the reading about how beneficial it is, I grudgingly started to write down as many as I could. I now feel it is beneficial as my recall has improved somewhat. It's difficult for me during the week to recall anything but my last dream before getting up for work. You see, my alarm goes off at about 3:30 am and I'm at my desk at work by 5am. I hit the snooze button and have mini 9 minute dreams before I finally drag myself out of bed. My wife would not appreciate me turning on the light to start writing. Trust me on this! Weekends however are the prime time, especially Saturday when my wife leaves for work at 5:30 am. I take my notes on the weekends and transcribe them in to Word. During the week I’ll bring my notes to work and do the same and put them on a thumb drive. I've been trying to WILD from the beginning, whether when I initially lay down or in the mornings on the weekend. I've come close but usually I just fall asleep. Otherwise I wake up when it starts to come on. Sometimes when I lay down to sleep at night I will just do the chant about "I will remember my dream".

I had some close encounters with lucidity, but it never quite clicked. I would become semi lucid, get excited and wake up. I used spinning somewhat successfully when coming out of a dream; it would get vivid and then suddenly end. Ironically in a dream I had Thursday, I was saying goodbye to a group of people and one mentioned how she was going to go home to bed and attempt another Lucid Dream!

I knew going into this weekend that this morning would be the prime time, since my wife and son left town yesterday to visit family until Wednesday. No distractions.

      The dream:

I had a few little dreams that were too short of details to record, then had a good, vivid yet short non-lucid one I awoke from at about 6:45. I jotted some notes, got up and went outside on the porch for a smoke, and went back to bed trying to WILD around 7:15. As usual I fell asleep and started to dream, however, shortly into the dream something happened. I saw an event that made no sense to me and I asked myself how that could happen. BAM, I was lucid! I didn't even bother to think about a reality check, it was so apparent I was in a dream. Looking around, I kept calm and was thinking how awesome, vivid and lifelike it was. I was very happy and started to explore with some interesting results. I used the "STOP!" command 2 or 3 times with success, which was very cool, so I did have some amount of control of the dream. It lasted a pretty long time. What ultimately woke me up was I started breathing real rough in my dream (during the best part of course ). I woke up and realized I was congested and really did have to clear my throat. Damn!

So that is my story. I’m sorry it is so long, but I figured the more detail I provide, the better chance another newbie will learn from this and also be inspired to keep at it. Giving up would make no sense, since there is nothing to lose in trying. This is a great website and I expect to be here frequently.

congradulations on your first lucid dream

one thing you should do is keep a dream journal, whenever I dont write in it, I dont have lucid dreams often, but when I do I have more.
