      i had it!!!!

well i tried a wbtb last night. i dont know if this dream happened after that or before it but it was my closest attempt at a lucid dream ever. i was standing in line for some rock concert. and there was a red clock up on the wall. i thought i should do a reality check. i looked at it once. it said 8:45....i looked at the ground....then looked back at the clock.. it said 13:84. i thought "omg i think im dreaming" for some reason i was still unsure. i thought if im dreaming i could cut to the front of the line and no one would yell at me. i walked to the front, and everyone started yelling at me. so i just figured i was awake and fell back into the dream. My god I was so close though!!

Hey, congratulations, you did well, do you do RC's already in waking life? If so, keep at them, your obviously getting close andif you continue with the reality checks you'll probably be able to have more of these situations on your hands. One thing though is this, if your in a dream and you've just done an RC, never assume that by cutting the line or trying to fly will work because in a dream it doesn't always work unless you truly believe it to, try something more practical, look at the clock again and again, and think to yourself "wait, clocks don't change like that" and then you can be pretty sure that your dreaming, seriously, if you got a gut instinct feeling thats telling you your dreaming you probably are, but theres no harm in proving it anyway. So don't try things, observe your current surroundings and try to find flaws in it. Best of luck to you!

for a second i was convinced that it was a dream. i don’t know why i second guessed myself. and i don’t know why i put my trust in DC's. everyone knows how unpredictable they are sometimes

I have a hard time sometimes believing that I'm in the middle of a dream too. Even after I've reality checked I sometimes check again to be double sure. The nose plug check usually works for me. Don't trust dream characters to validify if you're in a dream. They will continue to act of their own volition even though you know they are dream characters. So cutting in line usually will piss off DC's just as it would people in the real world.
In such situations, trust yourself above all. Or find a few reality checks you like and employ those.

I've been in those situations multiple times (I just had my first LD last night =] but I experienced multiple near ones before) but the thing is your still dreaming when you test. In real life when you RC just make sure you do it without relying on anything external, use only your body to do an RC. It ends up being more reliable, I've talked to some other people about it too.
And what if all of the world and the comforts that you knew disappeared? What if the idea of self, the idea of a thought, and all consciousness faded away while your ego died? Would you hold onto life or cease to exist, are you more than your mind and more than your feelings, can you exist without yourself? Do you know your cosmic niche and could you be content when you are gone?

what was weird was in almost every reality check i do i look at a clock. and in my dream reality check there was a clock there too.
was it luck or was it there by habit?

Well done, that was really close. Annoying when that happens I must admit, but it's a huge step in the right direction, so good for you there.

I find that clearing my mind when I do reality checks helps stop this, if I try and make myself think clearly and do one in a dream, I'm less likely to get distracted and go back to the dream.
