      Maintaining Lucidity

      Hey Duders

About 2 years ago I first got interested in Lucid dreaming. I read a few things on it and like most, got frustrated and gave up after a week. But something about lucid dreaming kept drawing me back in. I tried again and actually had 10 or so Lucid dreams over the course of a few months. My dream recall is pretty good, and so far Reality checks have been the only thing to work for me . Now that I'm gonna give it another shot I need some help with my biggest problem. After I realize I'm dreaming, I have 20 or 30 seconds tops before everything fades to black and I lose lucidity. I've tried looking at my hands, spinning, focusing hard on my surroundings but nothing has helped.

      Any advice?...please?

      to Dreamviews!
Spinning and rubbing your hands together seem to be favorites around here. I don't have that problem, so I can't give personal advice.

      Hey there,

      Relax and set yourself dreamgoals

That'd be my advice. The first lucid dreams, I always got so excited 'oh wow I'm having a lucid dream', I'd wake myself up. Or I got so focussed on trying to extend the dream that I was paying more attention to the idea of extending the dream, then the dream itself.

Be calm, relax... and set yourself clear dreamgoals that you might want to repeat to yourself before you go to sleep. It helps to have a good idea of what you want to be doing once you become lucid. Without it, I usually wake up fairly quickly too. With it, I can usually remain lucid until my goal is fulfilled.

Lastly, don't feel as though you have to try and rush things, as though you're on the clock, or if you hurry, your dream will end. That only makes it so

      Hope that helps,

      Hey, and to the forums!

The problem you seem to be having is that though you don't think it, your probably tend to get excited when your lucid and you worry and rush to try and maintain it, a good way is to confirm that your lucid and then just sit down, be calm and take in your surroundings and admire the ebauty of your mind, this will keep you focused and calm and hopefully make the dream longer. I've been having the same problem and it is slowly progressing.

Hey there, welcome to the forum!

Now, as others have been saying, rubbing your hands together and spinning on the spot can help some people a lot. Also, thinking calmly and logically is a big plus. When you get lucid, just stop and think calmly for a moment about how it's a normal dream, you just know you're dreaming. Being too excited can kill LDs.
