      hypnotic imagery?

I was attempting a WILD earlier this morning and for a less then a second, a glimpse of a picture of clouds came from no where and disappeared as quickly as it had came. It was a very bright and 'beautiful' picture. Nothing else happened and I saw no more imagery but felt, all of a sudden, awake. Note that I am new here and have only been at it a couple of days and this is the first time experiencing this. So can i get some tips on what would have happened after this?

What you experienced is almost certainly hypnagogia. It's common in WILD attempts. If you had been able to get through that, you might have gone straight into REM and had a WILD. Try, try again.
      LD Counter (as of 07.25.07) = 5 (2 WILDs)
Short-term goal: Recall three full dreams a night for a full week.
Long-term goal: Have three LDs per week for one month.
Longer-term goal: Have one six-hour LD every night! (Shooting too high? We'll see.)
Waking life goal: Round up some NPSG equipment to study my own sleep patterns.

Hypnagogia forming clear images like that as opposed to abstract things and flashes of light is very good indeed. You were close, top stuff. :bravo:

Yeah, I thought that I read somewhere that you'll get more flashing images and sooner or later, it will be a constant, steady picture?

      Hey there wfrballin

I am just curious to where you got in your WILD, did you get past sleep paralysis? Because if you didn't i can maybe relate to your experience, sometimes i will be trying to get to sleep and in the blackness of my closed eyes a picture or something similar will just pop up and seem really clear and vibrant and then just fade away. Its really strange, sometimes i'm not even trying to attempt any technique, it can happen a few seconds after getting into bed.

However if you got past sleep paralysis and moved past the HI and began to see images you were definately on the right track and getting there, if your that close and you've only just started lucid dreaming i'm pretty confident that you will get far with lucid dreaming using the WILD technique, keep it up

I barely got into Sleep Paralysis, I was laying there for maybe 5 minutes. I do get it a lot too.

Hey hey, laying there for five minutes and nearly achieving SP is a good start, i mean i once tried a WILD and lay in bed for two hours before i showed any sign of SP, your doing well, keep at it and you will get better and better at it

Well im not that good, it just depends on how tired I am! Haha, sometimes it takes me an hour to fall asleep, sometimes 10 minutes. It just depends.

I suppose sometimes it depends how sleepy you feel, i mean it took me ages to get to sleep last night, i mean personally i get really stuck on tricking my body into falling asleep, i am always too aware, maybe a good try for you would be to try to WILD when you next wake up early in the morning, naturally though, don't rely on an alarm clock because they often wake us up too much. I mean if you try a WILD and you find that you are too aware because you've stayed up too long you could always try shortening the time you stay awake.

Yeah, I usually just set a quiet alarm on my phone.. and i have that same problem too, tricking my body im asleep. What I do, and works sometimes is just accually try to go to sleep, not thinking about not moving and trying to stay awake, and just keep reminding yourself that your awake. If that makes any sense to. Haha, but the problem with that, is most the time I just fall asleep!

I think the best thing for you to do is try to experiment with it, thats the only way your going to find out what works best, see how you can get yourself to fall asleep quicker and stay aware, keep narrowing it down until you find the perfect combination, though the experimentation may take a while its worth a try because once you've found what works you can rely on it for most your lucid dreams. WILD is a difficult technique for some, but if you truly want to continue with WILDing then just try experimenting to see what works better.

Yeah I should probably experiment more because all I've really tried is the WBTB with the WILD technique. I keep a DJ and try to do RC throughout the day and i can really tell there helping me out! Alright, thanks a lot
